I purchase a SB6000 in Dec last year. The remote has alway been a problem. Our seating area is about 8 away from SB and TV. The remote does not work most of the time. Is there a better remote out there that can be programed to do a better job.

I would like to know where the IR sensor on the SB is located. It appears to be behind the grill. Is this correct?

Thanks

Bob

    Hello,
I believe it is located about 2" below the letter "e" in the word mute.

Ken, I think you are correct. Not sure why they would put the IR Sensor behind the Mesh. Thats probably most of my problems that I am having with remote. This is the only issue I have with SB. I sounds great and best I have seen for money. If the unit was out of warranty, I would relocate the sensor to a better spot.

    Thanks Ken

I was able to fix my problem with the remote. I was able to remove the mesh screen on the front of the SB and I removed the felt
from behind the mesh in front of the IR Sensor. cut 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" square. I was having problems with remote working from 8'
away. Now it works great from 12'. Not sure why Polk didn't do that at the factory.

    Hi Teltek,
Great, I'm glad you figured out a solution. I'm not sure why that wasn't picked up during the development stage, but it can be a problem.
    Take care, Ken

How did you remove the screen? And was the sensor about 2 inches below the 'e' in mute?

I started at the right side of the grill and started pulling up on the grill with small jewelers screwdriver. Once I got it started it
came off pretty easy. Just pull slowly. The grill is just glued on with a adhesive that stays sticky. Mine came off pretty easy. Just go very slow.
The sensor is located just right of the letter E in MUTE and down about 1 1/2".
What big improvement. You will like it. I sent Polk a message about the problem and let know how I fixed mine. They know there is a problem with remote but had no fix for it. Maybe they will make changes in their product to correct the problem. Hope so.
The sound Bar is the best I have seen for the money. Great sound and the Base is unbelievable.

Good luck. Let us know how you made out.

Have you tried replacing the battery? I'm only a week into my 6000 setup, but the remote works fine. My bar is 10ft+ away and works
    fine.
I can't imagine you would have to remove the grill under normal conditions for the remote to function properly. It would make sense to have to do so if the battery is in a weakened state of charge.
