well . . . UPS did not pay off like pretty much everyone on this thread said they wouldn't. they concluded that it was the sellers fault for his bad packaging that in the end caused the damage. the seller contacted me with this information first and then i called UPS to confirm this. the seller finally sent me the interconnect cable that went with these speakers so at least now the system is complete. the seller sent me a paypal refund of $300 as he said he would sue the UPS store in small claims to get his insurance value back. this was accepted as repairs hopefully would not cost this much in parts.
probably not the greatest thing i ever did was finally giving my two cents on ebay regarding this transaction which has really stressed me and my family out. when it came time to give ebay feedback, i gave the seller a neutral marking as this was definitly not a positive transaction other than the fact that i got the speakers that i wanted, he of course was not happy with this. well, after shipping, he did not go thru what i had to go thru with UPS.
so today i got in touch with Polk Audio and ordered a set of 6510 and 6511 drivers to replace the ones that were killed in shipping. the lady i spoke to, gave me a discount for belonging to this forum. nice things to happen. so in about ten days i will get them and will install and finally see if the speakers survived the UPS trip after all. i think i just have to re-strap down the cross-over and reconnect a few wires to make that work. if not, we will go from there.
i thank you all for your support

Did you find anyone to check out and upgrade your crossovers?

That really sucks, you get your hopes up and then ups turns around and screws it all up..But it sounds like the seller did a bad job packing them so ups is only partly to blame....
I Just recieved my 7c's from california to indiana via ups and i even contacted the seller about how he was gonna ship these since ups has a bad reputation, He shipped them ups anyways, did a pretty lame job of putting them side by side in the same box with cardboard between them and crumpled magazine pages for padding....By some act of God these things made it across the country without a scratch!
Keep an eye out and you'll score some sda's eventually, maybe even locally!

A crappy situation, but congrats on what appears to be a satisfactory conclusion. I will never ship medium to large speakers ever again. The boys in brown decided to walk on my Maggies, but I was lucky enough to be ble to repair them myself.

Go easy on the new drivers when you get them patched back up. Give them a chance to break in first before you crank up the volume too much.

UPS sayes "original factory packing" my polkls50's came new and the box was far from shipping worthy it was very unsafe basically just a extra layer of cardboard on the speaker so that setup/box was like 1/2" wider than the speaker .
IF I sold them I would not send them in that setup .
I figured the speakers were meant to be pallatized in stacks and trucked not individual shipping .
But if the boys in brown figure that layer of cardboard is enough there will be damage .
I never sent anything on ebay that got damaged but I have gotten stuff damaged , for example a electronic componant put in a box w/just peanuts and the peanuts shifted thus I get damaged equipment .

no, i have not been able to find anyone to check out and/or upgrade the crossovers . . . for one i have not received the drivers yet from polk for the ones that were damaged. once i receive these, i will put this all back together and then see what happens. if there is a problem i would imagine it to be in the crossovers. of course if you had any suggestions on someone i could contact in case the crossovers need work or upgrading, this would be highly appreciated. thank you for all of your support . . .

well, i finally received my 6510 and 6511 drivers that were killed in shipping. installed them, checked the crossovers and found they seem ok, just loose of their moerings. i sort of rigged them secure and closed the box up tight and turned the stereo on.
now as i have not heard an sda speaker in many years and the manual that is downloaded does not answer this question i have about the operation of the sda-1c . . . before i attache the interconnect cable, are all four 6510 and 6511 suppose to be active when playing music in each speaker. i thought the dimensional speakers were supposed to be silent until you attach the cable. when i turned the speakers on w/o the interconnect cable, all speakers in each box were playing music. is this the way it is supposed to be until you attach the cable and then the majic happens or am i seeing a problem with the cross overs here?

I believe, with later models, all woofers will play with the IC disconnected. They will all be active but without the dimensional sound however. It won't hurt anything but it isn't how they were designed to be played and would sound better with the the cable connected. I have a pair of SDA 2A's and 1C's that do this, my brother in law's original 2's only have the stereo drivers playing when the cable is not connected. I could be wrong but this was my experience.

well . . . with all speakers running, they kick the crap out of my previous best speakers, in my opinion . . . the dcm qed's. then i attached the interconnect cable . . . . . wow! you don't hear the majic of the srs's but everything sounds so much more clear and concise and positioned. i put on records that i am very familiar with and heard new things. on facebook( i think) someone came up with the quote, "there are speakers and then there are the polk sda's," i would call them the 3-D speakers. everything that is there is now much more there than before. for a pair of almost 25 to 30 year old speakers, this is amazing. someday when i can afford to get the crossovers and tweeters modified i am sure this will be the best of days for my man cave. i thank you for all of your support with the little venture i had getting these speakers.
