UPS Destroyed a Pair of 1C speakers:

Some of you may have seen my SDA 1C for sale on the bay. UPS had the courtesy to toss them around for me, leaving the base of one shattered, crossovers pulled loose, etc. So I have the drivers and the passive woofers and etc. Any idea of the value I can salvage? Thanks!
Scott

I would say almost zero value as the drivers themselves may also be damaged. I know there is no way I would buy drivers from a speaker that was destroyed in shipping. The Gear... They were insured... but UPS, as I have learned, NEVER EVER pays on their insurance. (The actual statistic is that they pay on only 14% of all claims.) I can clarify that all but one driver works.Scott

Too bad you didn't come here first. If you didn't sell them here we could have warned you about shipping these suckers.

Keep after them. Thier standard operating procedure is to deny every claim. It's only the persistent who get reimbursed. How were they packed? 2" of foam all around, you should be golden. Keep pushing them.
-
They accepted them in the store and told me they were packed well, then took my money for insurance... that is my only hope in small claims.Scott

I still maintain that if it needs a pallet jack to move it they can't throw it around. I guarantee what happened was one guy grabbed it thinking he was a stud and tossed it like a bail of hay.Too much **** to list....

No one is going to toss a 1C speaker like a bail of hay, I bet it was dropped off the truck. With that said I would never ship a speaker that big with UPS. If you did'nt have at least 2" of foam around them they were doomed when you dropped them off..
You will have to stick to your guns if you want them to reimburse you... -

I could ...bet your **** on that.

Oh I can't wait to watch how this evolves. What an ending to the story this could be!Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

That's exactly what I thought. What are the freakin' chances eh? Still need a bit of glue on one of the side panels but all cozy and comfy under my bed.Too much **** to list....

If you were selling them why would you want new cabinets to put them back together now?
Test what you have and try and sell the parts unless UPS takes the stuff if and when you get paid by them.Main Rig-Realistic AM/FM Record player 8 track boasting 4 WPC

I am just guessing but if he sold them and shipped them he no longer has them. They are most likely at the buyers residence...Too much **** to list....

UPS is the devil and the only time I ever set foot in one of their stores is if I'm returning something to Amazon via a prepaid shipping label.
-
I had them smash a computer so bad you could barely recognize it as such. United package smashers. What can brown destroy for you...
I hate them and personalty would not ship a rock with them. Get some pics and goto a local paper and run a add with a pic of the great service they run and drag there name through the mud. Make them pay the claim just too make you go away.Absolute corruption empowers absolutely.

I found some great advice on line about this exact issue and I am taking them to small claims first... but I LIKE the way you think! I can use the local craigslist and post the "before and after" all over the place. And I have a book called "Don't Get Mad, Get Even" that is loaded with ways to jack over a local business that needs it. May have to refer to it for ideas.

Devil in BROWN! I wouldn't trust the Brown guy for any package over 100lbs. They will find ways to destroy 100lbs block of iron shipped inside a cardboard box.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin: -

One and the same... hard to say what was done by UPS and age. one side of the metal magnetic plate was bent, but there was so much delamination that I am inclined to believe it was more of the latter. That said, seeing boot-prints in the boxes is more than enough for me to never trust them with anything ever again. The Gear... I had a nice Marantz tape deck deystroyed by Ups from the first stereo I ever bought from back in the 70's shipped from San Diego in the original box in another box, it looked like a pipe or something was pushed through the box the door and the VU meters were damaged I had it insured for $100 they decided to give me $35 and reimbursed the shipping charge of about $12 it took 2 months of dealing with them before they paid it. I wish you the best of luck collecting from themHome Theater

Tha t just sucks, we had to return some wonderful sounding speakers due to ups damage.
They were dcm time windows 1as, the wood damage was obvious, a driverwas damaged on the same side as the worst wood
damage.
Really a shame, this had been a near perfect pair, and even deb sat for about 2 hours listening, they were that pleasing.
Unless you played a low acoustic, the driver wasnt noticeable, first heard it on segers night moves intro.humpty dumpty was pushed
