and joined Blockbuster for DVD rentals. N'flix was taking forever to send anything recently released. Anyone else shown N'flix the door ?

Was thinkin about it, then we got hooked on old alfred hitchcock presents episodes.

They are awful, and we love every minute of it.

Much is seeing actors we remember from the old days.

After we are done with these, will probably cut it off.

Checked it out, and all I can say is I can't figure out whether or not they include online streaming with your monthly fee. Clicked the Blockbuster Movie Pass ad thingy and it took me to Dish! Not sure how they expect people to sign up when you can't even figure out what exactly you're signing up for.

Same here. I have never seen so many titles with "Long Wait" or "Very Long Wait" in the availability column. Old stuff, too. They seem unwilling to buy enough disks to satisfy demand.

It MAY just be the honeymoon period but, B'buster shipped me Cowbows & Aliens & Killer Elite (in Bluray), right off the bat. I think the earth's core would probably go cold before I got those in Any format from Nflix.

Not yet. If I want to watch a new DVD now I buy the Bluray. Otherwise, it goes to the bottom of the queue, and I will watch it when it shows up.

I very seldom re-watch movies so I've never developed much interest in purchasing them, but yeah, that IS the way to see what's new and hot. Certainly a cheaper propositoin than paying for an outing to the theater nowadays.

I don't have the same problems with Netflix apparently. I got Cowboys and Aliens from them about 2 weeks ago. But, I don't even really care when I get the movie. I've got 35 in my DVD queue and 126 in my instant queue... Stuff gets here when it gets here.

Just heard Amazon is entering the streaming fray. Dropped to netflix streaming only when they jacked the dvd/streaming price by 60%. I've been very happy with amazon as far as product/price goes-- and they said they'll undercut netflix by price and offer better service. I have no reason to doubt this.

Then you lose out on joining in the critiquing of the movie while it's current and are likely to hear "spoilers' in the wait period.:frown: I was almost ready to rent Cowboys on demand from Comcast, quickly came to my thrifty senses tho !

Hah ! I've only had my Panny plasma and Bluray for two years... and just recently got around to hitching them both up to an ethernet connection for their first time ever. Updates to firmware were immediately offered. (big surprise) The youtube page/screen sucked eggs, IMO. I wish the price to stream movies could average what it does to get DVDs in the mail, for me that's usually slightly less than two bucks per title.

The only people I critique movies with are a few friends... That also get their movies from Netflix. None of us are interested in keeping up with what's current... Movies don't go bad.

I've had Netflix for years and have had excellent service. I don't get all movies on released date because of the greedy studios, but if it's something I must have on day 1 then it's something I'm buying anyway. I've had no issues over the last ten years with Netflix delivery time.

Have fun with blockbuster, hopefully you'll have better luck than we did.

So does the Blockbuster come with instant streaming or is it just discs by mail?

It's hard to tell from their typically vague-before-you-buy information, but I don't believe it's an unlimited streaming option like Netflix (although I know they at least used to have that), looks more like a pay per view option.

Amazon has a decent streaming selection, but device support and just the overall experience from how you find content and (lack of) queue management is light years behind Netflix.

Netflix obviously had a rough year last year, but they're still king in the streaming world, and I still believe they are king in the movies by mail world as well, although blockbuster does have an advantage by being in bed with the movie studios.

Interesting , I just went old school and got all the movie channels from Verizon Fios. I cancelled them years ago as I was using Netflix. Today I find the streaming service sub par at best and with all the new series of shows like Spartacus , Californication , Game of Thrones , etc I find no reason to keep Netflix anymore. I don't rent Blu ray movies from them anymore anyway. I use Vudu or Apple TV for movies I don't plan on buying.

I've got a full Netflix subscription, along with Hulu+, Amazon Online, and Redbox's wherever I go. I still don't spend anywhere close to the $100 a month cable cost me. I used to have a Blockbuster account but then they pulled all the local kiosks. Netflix is pretty consistent, next DVD in the queue is here on the 4th or 5th day after I drop the last watched one in the mail.

No complaints with netflix we only watch a couple of movies a week, I have no problem picking one out for them to send by mail, or finding something to send to my Instant Queue, you can have a hard time going to the viedo store and getting a new release the first week it comes out. I've heard mixed reviews on blockbuster.

My only issue with netflix is I'm still not happy with them raising their prices. As far as getting movies, I've never had to wait more than a week or two for the latest stuff.

In the same boat here, but when I compare satellite plans that include all the channels I am getting now with my cable plan, satellite always costs much, much more after the introductory discounted price expires. You might check out AT&T Uverse if it is available in your area.
