DSW Pro 600 not making a sound...

Hi, hope someone could assist...

I bough a brand new dsw pro 600 a few years back which sat in its unopedned box till yesterday. Finally got to install it, connected to power, all seemed ok - subs light up the blue led upfront and the green led at the back on auto mode, however connecting to the receiver using the lfe input does not produce any sound... I have since then tried with another receiver and with the speaker in inputs but to no avail... Same problem...

Sub responds find to remote commands - blinks the led accordingly, and the back greed led acts as it seems it should, but no matter what bass does not come it - tried test tone, movie and tv...

The sub is out of warranty, so don't have the option of sending it back unfortunately. There is no visible damage of any sort, and I also opened the back plate to see if I could spot anything inside that might be wrong, but all looks fine - brand new both inside and out.

Any idea what could be wrong? Is it the amp that is faulty? Is there a simple way to check if the driver is good? If anyone is familiar with the schematics of the sub, I could follow an advice to test thing with a voltmeter or similar...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not stupid at all... Yes, volume is up on the sub, receiver both by pressing the rear buttons and the remote until blue led flashes 4 time to indicate level 40... No sound...

You mention that you tried the sub on another receiver. Did either receiver have a sub connected prior to testing? Reason being is that you need to tell the AVR that there is a sub connected. Generally by default the sub out is turned off.

Otherwise, do you have a set of 1/8" to RCA's? This way you could hook up a cell/ipod type device directly to the unit and eliminate the receiver altogether.

That's where I would start. Also - I have never personally taken the amp plate off of a sub before. Are you able to see clean through to the driver? Is it possible that the driver because disconnected somehow?

I didnt see where you turned it "on" only to auto. Maybe its not getting a strong enough signal?

Yep, the second receiver was connected to another sub that was playing fine. I put a test tone, and then just switched to the 600 using the same RCA cable.

Opening the plate does give you clear view to the driver and it looked just fine, all connected with no visible damage.

I will try connecting directly to a cd layer using the line outs, but I don't hold high hopes it will help... Thanks for all your help!

Sounds like an issue with the plate amp. Does the sub work in LFE mode?

I would suggest contacting Polk Customer Service.

To update on progress.. (or lack there of..) tried connecting also to the line out of a cd player, same issue. I've also noticed that first time I turn on the main ac switch, the back led turn green for 3 seconds, and then goes to red and stays there.... if I change the power switch from on to auto, or just switch the main ac off and on again, it comes at green and stays at green, however, still no sound..

I've opened the plate again and used a multimeter to take couple power readings at various places... couldn't spot anything obviously wrong.. :(

seems like sending it somewhere for a repair or replacement is my next step?

Yes, looks like there is an internal short or other problem with the plate amp.

Give Polk CS a call. They will get you up and running in no time!!
