Soundbar stops working

This is a two part issue...I got the Soundbar for the holidays and love it for regular TV. There's a few channels that the audio and video don't seem to match up and if I turn the TV speakers back on, it's in synch so I know it's something to do with the bar. It only happens on certain channels though so I don't get it?
Also, I tried connecting my ipod and computer to the sound bar via the headphone jack and it works perfectly for about 5 minutes and then stops. It's almost as if it's on a timer. The bar doesn't turn off as the blue light is still on and the ipod or computer is still playing but all sound stops. I have to change the source and then back to the one its supposed to be on and it starts working again...for about 5 minutes and then does it again. It's like clockwork. It's not any loud sounds or anything that's shutting it off for saftey, it just stops working. Any idea why? I'd really like to leave music playing or something but not if I have to get up and change the source back and forth every 5 minutes. What's wrong with this thing?? Please help!

    Hello Pdriggs,
Thanks for posting on the forum. A few questions, as far as your first problem, where is the SurroundBar getting it's digital audio signal? From the TV or another device? Also, which model do you have?
The second problem is quite unusual. When you say the blue LED is lit, has the number of blue lights changed? I take it the green LED is still green, correct? The only function that could turn it off would be the automatic standby function when there's no signal. But the green LED turns amber in color. When there's no sound does anything on the bar itself change?
    Regards, Ken

    Ken,

Thank you for responding. It's the SurroundBar 3000. As you can probably already tell, I'm not technical at all so please forgive my lack of knowledge. My TV (Mitsubishi 65 inch that I bought a year ago) only has a digital audio output (the orange cord and NOT optical). So the SurroundBar doesn't have an orange input so I have my DirecTV box connected to my TV via HDMI and then the sound from the DirecTV box to the SurroundBar via the optical cable. Most channels work fine when it comes to audio/video being in synch but there's definitely some that are not. Is this because one is HDMI and the other is optical? Is there a cord that converts the orange digital to one of the other sources (I know not optical) on the SurroundBar that will eliminate the synch issue?
As for the second issue, I've connected an iPad, iPod, my droid phone, and my computer to source 2 when trying to listen to music and just using the headphone jack (that's 3.5mm right?) the same issue happens with all of them. The music sounds great and goes for about 5 minutes and like clockwork, stops. If I click source #1 and then back to source #2, it picks up again right away...then another 5 minutes and off it goes. I haven't actually timed it yet but it seems to be about the same amount of time everytime. The blue lights stay on, the source light doesn't change, the green light stays on, it just stops playing. It's almost as if someone hit pause or mute but we aren't anywhere near the bar, the remote, or the unit that its plugged into. As this was a Christmas gift, I've already thrown away the box so I don't know how I would return this even if I wanted to. I love the bar when it works but having a synch issue with the TV and then almost shutting off without actually shutting off when listening to music isn't going to cut it. Thank you for your help.

    Hello Pdriggs,
Thanks for the additional information. You should be able to use the digital audio on the TV, this would prevent any non-syncronization problems. Are you sure a Toslink cable won't fit it? Remember to remove the rubber protector from both ends of the digital cable Polk provided. Just about every digital audio connection is a Toslink type.
The second problem is more mysterious. One thing to try is to increase the volume of the device providing the signal fairly high and have it turned on before you turn the SurroundBar on. If this still doesn't solve the problem give Polk's CS a call at 1-800-377-7655 and they can check with the engineering folks to see if there is an answer.
Let us know what you find.
    Cheers, Ken

    Hi Ken,
I am having a problem similar to the poster above. I too just got the Soundbar 3000 and have had it hooked up for a few weeks. I have an LG LED HDTV and connected it to the Soundbar using the digital optical cable provided. It sounds great and am very happy with it, but at lease half the time when I change channels, the sound cuts out. There is no change to any of the LED displays on the Soundbar. It is just silent. I need to power the TV off and then on again to get the sound to return. As you can imagine this is a pain in the you know what , especially for a channel surfer like me. Also, infrequently while watching a program, a crackle sound will come from the subwoofer and the volume and the sound will cut out. Again, powering the TV off and then on will restore the sound.
Before i found this forum, I was googling this issue and came upon other review sites (amazon, bestbuy, etc) where posters mentioned similar problems.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks
