SurroundBar 50 problems

I own a SurroundBar 50. It is connected to a Sony STR-DH 820.
Music sounds very good, but there is a serious issue with speaking voices, especially female ones.
The middle frequency range seems to be overemphasized and sounds blaring or droning (if thats the correct English term, I am not a native speaker).
The Sony does not have a sophisticated equalizer, so I cannot dampen out a narrow frequency range.
Is there a way of correcting this.
I also notices that the SourroundBar 50 is not being sold any more. Were other buyers experiencing similar problems?

Welcome to Club Polk neuwirthe!

I own the SB42" which (if I recall) basically uses the same drivers and tweeters and never had any issues so this is not IMO a recurrent problem but rather isolated.

Polk CSR or mod will eventually come by to your rescue and provide you with answers and help so in the mean time, what else can you say about your SB50? When was it purchase? Is the problem recent or did it occur gradually and just got worse? Have you had an opportunity to try the SB with a different receiver in order to isolate your problem (never know if the SB50 would work properly with a different receiver?)? Many used this product successfully (including DORO) without reporting such issue...

If I recall correctly, your Sony has the ability to adjust the frequency of the midrange down to the exact Hertz. It was something like pressing the EQ button twice and then on the page after Bass/Mid/Treb, there is a setting for which frequency the Bass slider adjusts, which frequency the Mid slider adjusts, etc.

Otherwise, I would recommend you contact Polk Customer Service.

You need to ensure that your Sony is set to default in the EQ section. Even basic Sony AVR's have soundfield choices and preset EQ curves. DO NOT use any curves or presets, only the default. I'd suggest resetting the AVR to factory default per the manual and see if the problem goes away.

This is not common to the Surround Bar50 and the fact it isn't being sold anymore is simply due to a model line change.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I general, I am quite happy with the speakers, especially with classical music the sound quality is very good. The problem I experience only occurs with certain types of speaking voices.
I do have the device for 2 months now.

Check post # 4 Mar's/Doro's comments and make sure all your setting are proper for your SB. The SB is geared toward HT more than music so you should not have any problem what so ever with speach/voices. Once you have your receiver settings all taken care and if the problem persist, just come back for some troubleshooting.

    Cheers!
