I have large 5 feet tall glass windows behind me about a foot from where I set. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to live with this?

Check my friend Blake's thread out for a possible solution. 2nd post has pics.

He hangs treatments in the window for listening, and can remove them when he wants to look out the window. Or for someone to look in.....

SCompRacer - Thanks for the link, Blake's room is definitely nice! Great idea on making the window panels moveable. However, I'd like to point out that the microsuede fabric will decrease the performance of the panels, especially in the high frequencies. Acoustically transparent fabrics are needed to maximize absorption...

Having said that, some people would much rather have improved aesthetics than the absolute best performance.

So if your limited with how much thickness you can have extending outward from the wall, which is the lesser of two evils......

    1) one in thick panel mounted one inch from the wall, or
    2) two inch panel mounted flush on the wall

I just finished DIY'ing my frames for my acoustic panels. I ordered Roxul Safe n Sound from Lowes. While I was there I picked up some 1x3 furring strips. Cut them to fit the Roxul, pre-drilled the ends, applied wood glue, and screwed them together. The Roxul 3 inch fit in there very well. Ordered burlap from Acoustic Panels. Will be here soon and wifey will cover them. Here are the 4x2 frames:

Here are some WAF DIY (2) panels I worked on today, I have some 2 3/4" deep DIY picture framing coming which will frame these 26"w x88" tall.
Bought a couple tapestries, and some 2"ECO acoustic insulation from Acoustimac.

These will go behind my Usher minidancer-2's in a couple weeks...so far so good...like I said wife approved

Looking good, txcoastal1! One suggestion, you might want to paint the staples black, or use a black sharpie to darken them. It should make them disappear a little better...

Those panels do look good my friend. One question. Why enclose the back of the panel? From what I have been reading from many different sources leaving the back permeable allows the sound to bounce from the wall back through the panel therefore increasing the efficiency of the panel.

Then again I look on the ATS Acoustics website and see that the panel they sell for DIYers has an enclosed back.

The density of that backing (shot 9/16" staples like butter) is really no different than the sheetrock with 3 layers of paint, plus having 14' ceilings those panels are 7-1/2' tall helped keep frame rigid

Nice to see the DIY and interest in acoustic treatments. Here is another way to build them. These are GIK 244's that I recovered with a Guilford of Maine fabric the wife picked out.
