First remove the gold jumper from the front speakers..Then ya take the main front speaker outs (L&R) and ya feed that to the top inputs on the speakers. Then you connect an RCA cable out from the Front L&R Pre-out on the main reciever to the Tape in or whatever stereo inputs you have on the second reciever.. Then fron that 2nd receiver.. connect speaker cable from the L&R main outs to the bottom set of connectors on the main speakers.
That way one reciever is powering the top half of the front speakers and the 2nd receiver is powering the bottom half.
Adjust volume levels to match on both recievers.. That part should be fun hehe.
You can do this on the Csi40,Rti70,Rti8,10 and 12's i believe.. The manual should say if you can.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

Ecylpse, what is the second receiver you will be using? Does if have at least l/r pre-ins?
Make sure you power the woofers with the more powerful reciever. That Kenwood you mentioned actually measured out to 92 X 6 in it's specs. That isn't half bad. -
Faster, do you think that the 12 will be worth all the extra money we would have to pay for it to trade up our 150s considering the price we got them for? I kinda doubt it.
-
well these aint actually an upgrade from what a had.. Really i only had the 70's for about a week.. all the rest of it about a week more then that.
I just want something i can be happy with for more then a few years.. The last speakers i had i owned and used for about 10 years. so i'm lookin for something that will keep me happy now and latter down the road when we move out into a house and i build that dream Home theater.
I originaly wanted the 150's but no one had them new at CC.. Then just last night when i was returning the 100's and the 8" Velodyne i seen that they had 2 sets of the 150's.. I did a quick brainstorm and thought lets try to get them for under 200 a piece.. Welp that didnt work!.. The manager said 850 for both and i was like huh? For demos? They had like a half inch of dust on the bottom of them..The other set they had that was the OB had some nice damage where someone pushed in both tweeters.. So i siad f'it, i'm not about to buy something like that in OB.. i'd rather have NIB.
So I've been fantasizing about the 12's since i seen them but never thought they were in reach till last night.. If i return the 70's that kinda sounded muddy to me and the sub i'd be close! So i did and am very happy! I never really liked the size of the 70's and love the big look of the 150's and the 12's... So now the front room should look great with my first BIG screen and my first BIG tower speakers that match in color! hehe...
The wifes like, "Those are too damn big!" and i'm like yeah, i know.. That what i like about them.. big massive sound that is sexy on top of it. Besides i should have more room for these since i'll be scratchin the sub outa the room.
Now all thats left is figureing out if i should match the new Csi5 with them or take a gamble and hope that the CSi40 matches but i doubt it since the new line has a reworked tweeter... That plus the only thing i got a deal on, the Rti38's x 4.. Now i should get away with them i hope since there not on the fronts...i'd save some cash as well... its either that or return them which i paid like $340.00 for and just get a set of Rti6.. but i'd like a chance at 7.1.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

Now the 2nd receiver.. Like i said its an oldie. A Technics 5x 100 watt pro Logic.. i dont think theres any line level inputs or pre-ins.. I've used it with the last 7.1 setup i had and they ran the rear centers.. i used the rear center pre out to the VCR L/R inputs.. Like i said probably gona be hard to match the sound level... but i should start lookin into some other amp soon.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

If i was to use a cheap receiver for the bi-amp.. what should i be looking for on the back side? Pre-ins? Would that make it so where it would level the sound level from the main receiver? Or is there no magical conect and i'd have to fine tune the level no matter what?Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

Ec., without knowing what the other receiver has or doesn't have (I don't know anything about that particular model) such as pre-ins/outs, etc., about the only thing I could think of is to hook them up by tape monitor loops, set the secondary receiver's listening and recording selector switches to the tape loop that the other is hooked up with, and then set the volume control to the 12:00 position (which should be the so called unity gain setting), and then use the volume control on the primary receiver as the master volume control for the both of them. Really, I'm not sure if I would rec. this or not. You might be better off just using the Kenwood with the 12s set to small and with a sub until you can get an appropriate amp for them.
-
Ok thanks big.. I'm not going to have a sub for the setup so the other receiver will and must work a little while till i get some fundage for a mean lean power amp machine! hehe
Yeah when i used the other receiver for the rear center channel i had to set the volume to the 12'oclock possition.. so what ya said sound about right on.
You've been a lot of help,
thanks again.
Now i'm off to match the set and replace the other speakers with a CSi5 and Fxi5.. I hope in the end the 6 hundred price difference i payed over the other setup pays off and i'm happy and my wife forgets about the whole freakin ordeal hehehe.. Not... Not till i pay off the credit card. :rolleyes:Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

I agree, basically you will be getting the Vifa tweeter, better cabinetry, and an extra midrange driver, and that's it. Not worth paying about $800 or $900 more for the pair for (not to mention having to also trade up the center and surrounds too to keep them all matched properly).
Although, according to some here, that extra mid is just the greatest thing ever though, so who knows, it may be worth it after all. Then the 12 will pass the 70 to be the worlds greatest speaker! -
I caught the sarcasm about "the world's greatest speaker". I don't think any of the newer polks could seriously be considered that. My first (and second) impression of the 12 was the additional driver does indeed add a significant improvement in clarity and detail over the 150. When compared side by side, the 150 seems a bit "hollow". Don't get me wrong, I love the 150 sound and if the upgrade cost was 800 or so, I would agree it is not worth it. I think the ever so slight decrease in bass is actually a good thing for my environment, and with virtually no upgrade cost I think I'm going to jump big time into the 12s.
I think they are both great speakers and will soon have owned them both. Now if I can just survive the impending layoffs at work, I'll be even happier -
Kinda reminds me of the side by side compairison of the 70's/100's..
Yesterday was the day i took back the 100's and i thought i'd give them one more chance and compair them the right way by setting up one of each in stereo mode with the 100's sub off.. Then with it on for kicks.
I keep paning back and forth and it took me no more then 5 secs to hear the difference.. The 70's had way more presense to them and way more bass!.. Solid sounding.. pan over to the 100 and it sounded very hollow and it seemed like half the volume hehe..
So from then on i knew that 2 drivers were better then one.. Thats kinda why it was easy for me to choice the 12's over the rest of the line.Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

Oh thanks again Bigsexy!
I just took a listen to the 70's Bi-Amped!
WOW! What a freakin difference! i'm talking like night and day..Its seemed like a 1000x's better then before.
The tip with setting the 2nd receiver using the tape monitor inputs worked great!.. Set the dial to 12 and turned her on and it was one hell of an experiance!
I sat there on my couch with my jaw dropped thinking to my self "now this is sound!"... Then i slapped it in Stereo just to hear the 70's alone and i could only put the volume to -40.. Before i liked it at -27-30. The sound had such more presence and stage that i had to turn off the center even though it wasnt playing cause the sound was just that good and stright at me that i thought it had to be on! hehehe. Slapped it back into 5.1 DP II and i hear stuff that i never did before in the music that i just listened to if that makes any sense!
I was thinking to myself that, hell i could hurry up and cancel the order on the new speakers and be happy!.. This was the sound that i was waiting to hear when i first bought these babies.. But then, heh.. my other half kicked in and said "What" over the 12's?.. naw.. just emagine what they would sound like!
So heh..umm.. 70's are very aweet and i take back the muddy sound i said about them earlier!
hehe i was going off thinking damn i gota bi-amp the whole system! hehe.. Well i guess just the center as well.. But man would that put a hurtin on the electric bill!
So when i bi-amped i actually was sending 100 watts to each front speaker right? So that double in wattage made them sound that good.. So that means when the 12's come i'm gona be hurtin cause i'm sure a 100 watts to each tower wont do justice with those eh?
But what happends later on when i get a new amp and its like 200 watts a channel.. So that means that the main receiver will give out 50 watts to each speaker and the new amp would give double of that to the bottom end? Would that make the volume levels un-even? Or would it just feed the woofers what it needs and it wont use it till like some big explosion in a movie?Full 5 channel set of Polk Audio

So which set of binding posts on the 70's did you hook up the second receiver to? Do I have this straight? Kenwood to all speakers+ (top binding posts on 70's)and the the L/R preouts from the Kenwood to the Tape inputs on your Technics. Then the Technics volume set to 12o'clock position. Or do you have the Kenwood connected to all speakers except the 70's and just have the Technics running the 70's. I have a Denon 3803 and an old Sony STR-DE545 I might try this with to check the sound. I just don't want to mess up the 3803 or the 70's. If anyone else tried this please chime in with the results. Make sure you take the gold jumpers off each speaker or you'll have some serious probs!
Its:
Main receiver
"Front Left" speaker out to the "Top set" of the "Left" 70 binding post.
"Front Right" speaker out to the "Top set" of the "Right" 70 binding post.
2nd receiver
"Front Left" speaker out to the "Bottom set" of the "Left" 70 binding.
"Front Right" speaker out to the "Bottom set" of the "Right" 70 binding.
Connect the RCA stereo cable from the Main receivers Front Pre-Out to the 2nd receivers Tape monitor input..
Se the 2nd receivers volume dial to 12'oclock and make sure that you select tape monitor on the 2nd receiver and its set to stereo.
Double check your wires to make sure everything is correct and double check that you took off the gold jumper on each speaker! Or you'll probably blow the thing up! hehe

Crutchfield is an autherized dealer of what they sell.. Plus they have a 30 day no hassel return policy on everything.. The only thing the will charge you shipping on a return is either a Tv 24" and above or tower speakers... They also have free shipping on everything 299 and up.. but heh again the Tv's 24" and above plus the Tower speakers. They are very professonal. They even call you the same day after you make a purchase to verify that you ordered something to prevent card theft.. Very noligable sales staff and the best freggin web site i've seen yet with a ton of info on all there products plus Pics of every angle..
They may cost more, but you can buy with confidance with crutchfield.com.
I just ordered my new Rti12's,Csi5,Fxi5's from them and they have very fast shipping!.. They sent the rears and center channel speakers to me in 2 days and that was the free ground shipping hehe.. The 12's are being sent from a carrier company and it only cost me 16 bucks.. and those speakers weigh a total of 176lbs.. I cant complain at all.. and just love that crutchfield! I bought apair of Fxi50's from crutchfield and they fell off the speakers stands and were cosmetically damaged so I returned the to get a set of 30's at CC at a much lower price. Crutchfield returned the full amount without even a question. I also bought and returned a Denon 3803 from there and didn't have even the slightest problem getting my money back. Their return policy is outstanding 30 days and no restocking fee. Some of the other places online I'have looked at either have no returns or restocking fees that are 15-25%.Receiver = Denon AVR-3803

crutchfield is charging everyone for the im guessing 5-10 percent return rate they might have, i think the best way is to demo at the store or at home if you have 30 days to return, then if it makes sense to buy online ( i think it has to be a big diff. in price, not just a few bucks) then fingers crossed that you dont have a DOA because there is the phone calls, the shipping, the loss of handling charge that is thrown in. in canada future shop( now owned by best buy who bought out the owner for 550 million) lets you return any product purchased online within 30 days to any store, i guess what im saying is the lowest price doesnt always mean the best deal
