Sid, I dont' think that it's metal at all. I agree that the silver area around the speakers is a much more subtle look than what that picture shows.

heh whatever it is looks freakin good to me! Its getting very hard to resist them.. They would match my Samsung 61" DLP perfectly i'm sure.

I'm debating returning the set i have and buy'em up bigtime and my wife hates me for it hehehe.. Hmmm.. lets see here..

My setup that i recently bought up of the older Rti's at CC:

    Fronts- Rti 70's
    Center Csi40
    Rear L & R surrounds- Rti38's
    Center L & R surrounds- Rti38's
Sub woofer- Velodyne CHT-8,10 or 12.. (Still deciding which i need)

Now the only pieces i got a deal on were the 38's at $200 for one pair new and $140 OB for the 2nd pair.

Total $1240 w/tax $1314.04 Thats without the sub.. w/sub it would be another 3-400 more at 1700+..

    New set of Rti's

    Fronts- RTi8-pair =$699.98
    Center- CSi5 = $399.99
    Side surrounds - FXi5 = $499.99
    Center Surrounds - Rti6 = $379.99

That comes to $1979.95 not including tax.. Damn now thats quite a difference in price heheh.. Shiat!

hmm.. Well lets see with just a 5.1 setup and x the FXi5 for now and throw in the Rti10's :).

    Rti10- pair = $959.98
    CSi5 = $399.99
    Rti6 pair = 379.99

Total $1739.96 w/o tax.. jeese not much of a difference but very doable if i can scratch off the sub and deal with the low bass with the 10's since they have dual 7" woofers in each.. Might get away with it.

Whata think? Smart or just plain dumb to do?

If i could hold onto the 38's and the center CSi40 i'd just do that and save more money just replacing the front channel.. but i bet that newer tweeter would'nt sound the same as the older models.

How they sound I haven't tried. But I think they look way too flashy. I guess Polk is trying to attract the yuppy buyers with the flashy metal and curve speaker grills.

The flashier the looks the more mass produced they look. I actually prefer the boutique and some what DIY look of the previous line. The old look will age very well. The new look will look tired after a year.

Oh well to each his/her own. I'm so happy with my present set up that I will not be trading them in any time soon.

The cherry is actually..cherry. Not maple.

Sid's right. Ken S. confirmed they were VIFA and I was also assured they would timbre match quite well with the current line of soft domes.

Thanks Steve. If Ken said it, then it must be Gospel. I knew they were planning on it, but I hadn't seen anything about if they had actually made it through from the prototypes to the actual production run or not.
    Sid, it's not that I don't trust you, but, well,....... I don't!

No Sid, it wasn't bull ****. It was simply the truth. Like I said before in another post, anything and everything you say isn't neccesarily always wrong (hell, even a broke clock is right twice a day), but it should be taken with a grain of salt for whatever it's worth.

We can't forget about this broken clock thing. We have a BS here...he is telling me how I'm wrong except 2 times a day, when he can't figure out it is still the beginning of most school years and most 15 year olds are now in 10th grade...

    BROKEN CLOCK? I THINK SO!

Wrong again junior! Read what you yourself just wrote:

"Usually 15 year old's are 9th graders that are about to move on to 10th...Hello?"

Which means that, until they do actually move on to the 10th grade, then they are still in what? C,mon, you can say it! Do the math, what's 10 - 1? 9 maybe?

    And:

"the beginning of most school years and most 15 year olds are now in 10th grade..."

Key word there, most, not all. What about those w/ birthdays in Nov./Dec.?

Go to sleep now junior. It's getting to be past your bedtime on a schoolnight.

Catch you again tomorrow or the next day.

Because BS needs to change his name to AH.

    Hello Senior,
Listen to yourself, Most of my friends are 13 to 14. Some turn 15 in November and December. EVERY and I do mean EVERY 10th grader is either 15 or 16. There are VERY few 15 year old 9th graders. There will be at the end of the year, most of them, but not long enough to even consider them 15 in the 9th grade. Its called majority. THe majority of the time you spend a certain age in something is the age you were in that in that particular activity in that time. I will turn 15 in January. The end of January. Which means, I will spend only 4 months out of 10 months in 9th grade at the age of 15. Which means the majority of the time I was 14. Hello...

I have friends that just now turned 14, they will turn 15 in the 10th grade. Your just mad because you're wrong. Yes, in a sense your half right, and the other sense im all right. I covered all bases where you left it half ****$.

I'm not in the mood to put up with your BS, so leave it in the water for flush time because I'm not putting up with it. If you have problems - my email is vr3mxxtrmespl2k3@hotmail.com - my AIM SN is vr3mxdmicblce2k7

Until you IM me with your complaints and guilt trips about your disturbed child hood, I dont want to see your trash, leave it at home. Alright?

    Good

PS: We have 17 year olds in 9th grade. Possibly you could get them and their 'gang' to beat me up eh? You seem to have the inside connections

Change of subject is in order!

I'm about to order the Rti12's from Crutchfield.

    I currently have:

    70's for the fronts
    Csi40's for the center
2 sets of Rti38's for the rears
    Velodyne CHT-10 sub

I'm going to return the 70's to CC and the Velodyne and replace them with the Rti12's..

I've never bi-Amped before but looking forward to it.. though at the moment i only have a Kenwood Vr-6070... 100Watts x 6 channels THX.. I also have an old Dolby Prologic reciever that i belive is 100watts x 5. its got a tape in if thats all i'll need to hook it up.

Now i know i'll need more but its a new 2nd floor condo..

    Opinions?

Is there any real cheap sollutions i could use to properly power these for normal listening levels? I dont think i can afford anything at the moment though..
