SDA 2B Studio - Crossover upgrade

I have a few questions about the crossover upgrade. I just had to take in my left channel SDA 2B (studio version) to the local repair shop, because at higher volume levels (not super loud) the speaker would cut out (i.e. suddenly lose high and mid range sound) after a few minutes of listening. Funny part is, if I put the volume back to zero, it would correct itself. If I turned it back up to higher volumes (little over half way), it would eventually cut back out.

The local repair shop said they would let me know what the exact issue is, but they think it might be the crossover. If the crossover is actually bad, I think I would rather upgrade the crossover instead replacing it will the original crossover.

I'm very new to all this. I did a forum and google search, but didn't find exactly what crossover parts to get, who to buy them from and if this is something I could do myself. I would appreciate any information on this subject.

Sounds like a poly switch that has reached the end of it's useful life. Too bad you took it in, you could fix it yourself for a few dollars if you have a soldering iron. I'm sure this won't be cheap if the repair shop is doing it.

There are hundreds of threads on x-over upgrades for the SDA's. If you are even a little handy with a soldering iron it's not terribly difficult.

I hope it is something fairly easy to fix and not something bigger. I'm assuming it is not easy to find replacement parts for the older SDAs. I told the repair guy to just diagnose the issue, which cost me $75. If it ends up being a poly switch and he is asking too much to fix it, I may post back and see if you have suggestions on how I can fix it myself.

Keep looking around and I'm sure you'll find what you need. There are guys around here who can build these speakers from scratch.

I've been working on these crossovers for a good year now. If you're anywhere in Socal I'd be willing to take a look at them and help you order the parts you need.
