Drove to the store today to buy jello, chicken broth, etc. Passed BK, MD, Jack, Taco Bell. Got home and had to look at the Christmas cookies on the counter. Thank you Mr Colonoscopy..... not!

Lifesavers are your friend, along with jolly ranchers and any soda you can look through (Sprite, Diet MD, etc).
But yes I agree liquid diets SUCK!

Trust me, you will have enough "help" without liquor sh**s.... Plus the added burning sensation might not be the best idea lol......."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Enjoy lol. I hate that crap but once I year I get the "privilege" of going through it again lol. By the time I am actually due for one due to age (over 40) I will have had about that many already lol.........
As a side note, you might enjoy knowing the average person has 10 lbs of "stuff" lying around in their intestines... so consider this the "24 hour weight loss regiment""....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Actually after 40 you're only suggested to get prostate exams yearly. After 50 (I'm almost 52) they recommend colonoscopy's every 10 years. This is unless you in an "at risk" group. -
Just DON'T eat or drink anything red. How they can call that stuff to flush you out with golytely  that stuff make me wanna go out the wrong end. Anyway have a pleasant night on the porcelain throne.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain

Good luck Ken! This is an easy procedure and something that everyone over 50 should do.
As Ken noted the prep is a little tough. Clear liquid diet. And the stuff to flush you out. Tip: Buy real, real soft toilet paper LOL!Carl -

Screw that, buy flush-able baby wipes, work much better"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
I would think the end result of not getting one done and having something go wrong health wise sucks more than the liquid diet.

Hey Ken, how did yours go? I've had a headache since coming out of sedation, but other than that, smooth sailing! Hope yours was just as good."Don't forget to change your politician. They are like diapers they need to be changed regularly, and for the same reason."

You probably need to eat or you need a caffiene fix.Hey Ken, how did yours go? I've had a headache since coming out of sedation, but other than that, smooth sailing! Been there, done that! It's only a "day's worth of prep". I drank ginger ale to my heart's content. Wasn't hungry at all! Lots of carbs there!
Good luck, a relatively harmless procedure. Most people pass it with flying colors or have a benign polyp or two cut out during the procedure--again nothing that relevant. But it's a good thing to check!
You dudes should not be that "disturbed" this is a "must" test that can save your life if you do have markers for colon cancer. Catching it early is 90%+ of the battle! Don't procrastinate!

Oh, I ate OK. It is getting better now, Cathy, after some diet peps and tylenol."Don't forget to change your politician. They are like diapers they need to be changed regularly, and for the same reason." -

I agree with your assessment on the need. I believe it was the discussion of the collateral things that were disturbing. I am glad all went well with the test. -
First, on a serious note... colon cancer took my Dad, so of course I am in the "high risk" group. My first scope turned up three polyps. Was sweatin' the biopsy results a tad, but fortunately I was O-fer-3 on the Big C scorecard. Scope #2 (about 18 months later) was clean. Will go for #3 in 2012.
But who schedules a scoping between the holidays???ken brydson wrote: »Freakin starving. Just drank my 1st 8oz of "**** juice".Clear liquid diet. And the stuff to flush you out. Tip: Buy real, real soft toilet paper LOL!
Glad things turned out well for the Club Scope newbies...More later,

My prep wasn't that bad, but it also wasn't a Rx solution. I started at noon with 2 Dulcolax tablets, then 2 hours later I started drinking a mixture of 64 oz of gatorade with a full container (238 g I think) of miralax. It didn't taste that bad, but I could choose whatever flavor gatorade I wanted, as long as it wasn't red. I think this is a newer concept in colonoscopy prep. FWIW
As far as holiday scoping is concerned, it is when my wife could go and drive me home (teacher) and didn't interfere with our travel schedule."Don't forget to change your politician. They are like diapers they need to be changed regularly, and for the same reason."
