I picked up a set of 4 drivers for spares or whatever. All 4 are stamped SDA-2.
2 of them are mw 6511's and 2 are mw 6503's. Is that right? 2 different models for the same speaker? All are also stamped September 1987

The MW-6511's are the Dimensional drivers.

Put some JB Weld on them Beeyotches quick ! (to prevent shifted magnet-paperweight syndrome) A long history of defective glue jobs plagues these drivers and renders them useless........ with great regularity!

Are the MW-6510's also plagued with this problem?

Yes!! I have handled over 100 MW's and have only lost 2 of them but I do agree about JB Welding them, I do it on all upgrades.

By all means JB Weld them. For your info it's not from a "defective glue job" the problem stems from the fact that these drivers are over 25 years old and the epoxy used back then wasn't even close to what is used now days and besides epoxy will only hold for so long. And it's not just the Polk drivers any 25+ year old driver that has the magnet epoxied on will and can suffer the same fate.

Dumb question time. This is the first time I have heard of this. Does the glue go around the outside (back) plate where it meets the magnet?

After examining countless frozen 6.5" Polk MW drivers I'm gonna' hafta' stick with defective as my descriptor for the glue jobs. In some cases, as little as one quarter of the available gluing surfaces were coated with glue/adhesive/epoxy or whatever that lame stuff is. Bad choice of material coupled with shoddy QC and oversight, equals....... paperweights.

No. Toolfan66. I don't own any SDA'S. Just thought I would grab these for any future projects of mine or to help out anyone that may be in need of these. I have an RTA 12B project that I will be taking on as soon as the shipper settles on the damage claim.
