I ran across this company, Track Audio based in England, that offers some very cool high end stands and spikes.

Overview, http://www.trackaudio.co.uk/

Spikes, http://www.trackaudio.co.uk/spike/spike.html

US sales, http://www.musicdirect.com/p-58810-track-audio-speaker-spikes.aspx

Before any of the cheap ****'s whine about the cost, (yeah, these aren't for you) keep it to yourself.

I thought those looked familiar, then noticed that Music Direct is the US dist. They have some of their stands in the Music Direct show room in downtown Chicago.

Those look like they would go zoom-zoom right out of the box. Nice machining on them plus any thread size one would need.

They do! In fact what I don't like is that the stands make the speakers setting on them look rather mundane! I like my stands a little more plain and muted in design. That's not a criticism of these stands, more just my personal taste (or lack thereof).

Yeah, I can see that one would need speakers with a certain look sitting on top of those stands.

Those are slick... not sure what kind of speaker you would need to pull those off - Im thinking Wilsons, JM Labs, etc

My plywood stands with 3 penny nail spikes will sound the same as these over priced snake oil well machined killer looking stands and awesome looking spikes do.

    Seriously those are beautifully done.

With the new lathe we got 2 weeks ago one could go crazy!! Anyone that would **** about the cost of hi-end stands, racks, spikes has no clue to what's involved to build not only a good looking stand but a piece of art that functions for the better purpose of sound as well.

The machining alone is a lot of work, I know as that's what I did in the Navy.

They are very nice but WAY out of my price range.:cry:

Jesse don't take this as a **** about the cost.

I agree. In a previous life I programmed lathe operations like that. Those would require several operations to complete. Not to mention the finish work, packaging, shipping, marketing and delivery to the customer.

120 bucks for 8 spikes doesn't seem that spendy, especially given the quality. Maybe just me.... I think I need to order a set now.

I was thinking the same thing on the cost. That $ isn't bad considering the machining and quality by the look of it.

Yeah, I ordered a set last night since the other spikes I ordered over a month ago still haven't shown. That reminds me though.... I need to get some wood putty to fix where some jackass installed wheels on the bottom on my 2.3 TLs when I put proper spikes on them.

As I had a specific diameter requirement and it wasn't listed on Music Direct's site, I called and spoke with Mark. He was kind enough to get back to me in short order with the measurements, which he has now posted. I had also sent an email to Track Audio and Mike was kind enough to respond with the same information in metric measurements,
our M6 and 1/4unc spikes are 12.0mm in diameter ,M8spikes are 14.0mm in diameter and our M10 and 3/8" UNC spikes are 16.0mm in diameter. The isolation adapter kits are available in M6,M8,M10 ,1/4" UNF,1/4" UNC and 3/8"UNC and are 44.0mm in diameter
Kudos to both. I've got a set arriving Friday.

Hey Carl, a set of 1/4-20 spikes for now. Those isolation feet have my interest.

Music Direct is incredibly overpriced, so don't let that keep you away from what looks like a great stand for those that want to step up the game a bit. The spike cost is nominal in respect to all the things we buy in this hobby.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Just wanted to follow up on these spikes. I had been looking for nice spikes that would work with my RTi A7's in the HT room. The RTi A5/7/9 series have a somewhat odd footer that has a rubber piece attached to it in which there is a 1/2" diameter, 5/16" deep recessed hole before reaching the 1/4-20 threads. Butting a spike up against the rubber didn't make sense to me, so the search was on. I found the Track Audio spikes, which are .47" in diameter and seemed perfect for my needs. I placed the order and a few days later they arrived in a very nice wooden box with foam liner just like the picture at Music Direct. The spikes themselves are top notch, beautiful machine work. I installed a set on one of my RTi A7's, but found that the spikes would not pierce all the way thru the carpet as the spike section is shorter than I thought and it flares out at the top thereby stopping the spike from going as deep as I need. I think on a cut pile type of carpet they would work, but on a tight weave like mine, no. The spikes would definitely work well on hard surface flooring. I ended up returning the spikes and decided that the only way I was going to find something that I liked and works for me would be to design my own and have them made. I have completed the design and will be talking with some folks about making them.

    Stay tuned.

BTW, Music Direct does not sell the Track Audio speaker stands.

They work a treat on my 2.3 TLs on my carpet. No problem piercing all the way to the slab. But yeah, if my carpet was a 1/2" thicker, they would have left the speaker sitting on carpet, not slab.

I like the look of the stands and spikes, I just don't get the metric measurements of 500 or 600mm high instead of 50 or 60 cm. I guess the next time someone asks me what size my boat is, I'll tell them its 258 inches, and let them think on it for awhile.......
