I have never liked the studio look on the SDA's I find them quite ugly myself. But everyone has a different taste in styles.

Indeed. I feel the same way about the standards. My entire house is cherry. Cherry and Black. There is no place (besides the wood stove) for oak anything in my house.

My oak caps are black. What I really wanted to do and still want to do is make some caps out of 1" thick aluminum put a real nice grain on them have them hard black anodized the have them powder coated with a clear coat, I think they would look BadAss!!!

You might try some "color-core" plastic laminate (in black). Same sort of "look" but easy to obtain and easy to apply.

Hand rubbed finishing is tedious but, oh so worth it ! You can also do a matte HR finish with coarser abrasives. ( like H9 or GG !)

Could you imagine the finish with 24 grit h9 paper?

It doesn't have the bracing nor the real wood end caps of early regular cabinet 1C's. Later regular cabinet 1C's had real wood laminate, IIRC.

    H9

I've been looking for pics of this added bracing but have been unsuccessful. Do you have any? I am curious about any differences that might be present.

I know this is an older thread, but. I have never seen 1C's with the PR so close to the drivers. I have a set of Studio 1C's about 1987 vintage. The distance looks the same as the standard model 1C's to me. I would like to know about extra braceing....

I was told (of course by the saleman) that you were really just paying for the extra wood. The basic cabs were the same. Lets put it this way nothing you could hear back then. Like the standard cab sounded better then the studios.

The 3.1TL in your picture has black end caps and therefore is not a studio version as there never was a studio version of that model. The studio versions of the 2B's and 1C's do not have end caps.

Was that even an option or did someone just paint over the oak veneer?

Regardless, sexy. The other half saw the picture and said no before I even opened my mouth. I quite like the oak look myself.

Yeah, I've got the black end capped 3.1TL's. That is the stock way they came. I like the black ones and the oak ones about the same, just a different mood coming from them.
