I have a washer available for free in the Charlotte area. Dependable as all get up......the wife just wanted to "update". I know it's a long shot but if anybody wants it, it's yours. Works perfectly and has for decades. Not one repair, ever. I don't know how much more dependable you can get. Extremely large capacity. Much larger than the "extra large" capacity they advertise in today's washing machines. Sorry, the dryer has already been spoken for by another fellow Polkie.

    JLMK if you want it.

It's just sad that over $3k in a washer/dryer pair doesn't mean it's going to last.

Yep, sad but true. Then why spend big coin on either ? The more expensive the combo gets the more expensive repairs will be too. Kinda like cars, you simply can't work on the more expensive ones yourself. I was lucky enough to find a washing machine with an agitator as the newest models are all moving away from that design. However the steam function on a dryer is a usefull feature but those machines cost double. Whatever happened to throwing a wet,hot rag in the dryer for the same results ?

Same for refrigerators, 2 grand ? Seriously ? My appliances are aging, Kenmore and Kitchenaid, hitting the 12 year mark so I know they'll probably all start going at the same time. Keeping my eye out for deals, I can't believe what new appliances are costing these days. Whats next, 10 year financing plans for a fridge and a stove ?

Was also car shopping as my 2 cars are also up in age and miles. I see car salesmen haven't changed a bit. Scumbags, the lot of 'em. 8 year financing ? Am I applying for a second mortgage here ? Everything is an extra, and a ton of additional costs/taxes/fee's and so forth. The average decent car is 30 g's and up.

I know I sound like a cry baby with the costs of everything. I certainly expect things to cost more as time marches on, but today seems to be out of wack in comparison to wages. Could be a reflection of the dollar and it's lost value over the years, I dunno. Too many variables goes into consumer goods pricing. All I know is, at every turn the things consumers need the most have skyrocketed while wages remain flat as a pancake. You algebra majors want to put that into an equation and figure out the end result ? I could, it's called poverty. At the very least a diminished middle class.

Sorry for the derail in a washing machine thread, I'm just aggrevated is all. Hope the OP finds what he's looking for in his price range. My advice...go to a sears scratch and dent warehouse. You'll get a machine a few notches up the line for the price of an entry level one on the floor of other retailers.

Yeah Tony we just replaced a 15 year old kitchenaid washer and dryer not one problem until recently I wanted to get it fixed but figured at that age decided to get new. They don't make kitchenaid anymore, and top loaders are harder to find. I told the wife choose she picked out the Maytag set and needless to say I almost you know what my pants when they were $2700 I hope they last, and is the last purchase.

Get the 5yr warranty minimum. They wont last like they used to. Note Dryers are the more reliable than the Washers.
