I am getting ready to rebuild my xovers and was looking at both Mills wire wound and Mundorf MOX Resistors. I know a lot of people like the mills has anyone used the Mundorf and if so did you like them or should I go with the Mills that most seem too use?

The Mundorf is a metal oxide film resistor is there any down side too that?

I have no experience with the Mundorf resistors, but typicaly metal oxide film resistors are not rated for many watts. I have used many Vishay metal film resistors in the preamp section of a Fisher 600, and in a Dynaco preamp, but they were all 1/2 watt or less. The results were fantastic (like someone cleaned the window you have looked through so many times before, but now you notice more detail and clarity). Metal film is the next best thing to an actual wire, so why not stick with a wire wound resistor with a known track record for excellent results that easily handles the power requirements of your crossover, rather than take a chance with something else?

By the way. I buy the Mills resistors from Parts Express for $3-4 a piece in bulk, and sort through the lot to find a close match (<1%) rather than pay Mills to do the same for $90 a piece.

I use Mundorf all the time - in my experience they are a tad brighter in presentation which if you prefer that is a good thing :)

As far as power handling and signal transfer, etc etc they are up there with Mills no problem.

    I agree.

I much prefer the transparency of the Mundorf over the Mills. The Mills has a nice sound to it too. I think it works great if you listen to a lot of blues or stuff with electric guitar.

I think it depends on what you want to spend. If you don't mind the extra cost the Mundorf's are hard to beat.

The Mundorf MOX resistors aren't that spendy.

Yes the cost is about the same. The Mills come in both 5 watt and 12 watt and the Mundorf in 10 watt. The only issue with the Mundorf is they don't seem too have one value I need and that is the 6.2 ohm I would need to use a 6.8 or use a Mills in that spot.

As for bright not too sure on that one as I still have the sl2000's installed and don't have the money to install Rd0-194's as of yet. :(

Make your life easy and just go with the 12 watt Mills, The Mills come in just about any value you need.

Yes the mills comes with just what I need and the cost is the same just thought I would ask before I went and ordered. So I should use the 12Pulse watt vs the 5 watt correct? I know stock they are 5 watt but will they fit OK on the stock boards?

Yes the 12 watt Mills should fit fine there not much bigger than the stock cement ones.

Of course you could buy a set of my boards and you'd have no problem getting them to fit at all.
