I'm way older than the band members so they didn't live there (21 years ago) when I did, but their current house was a driver and a nine iron away from our first home.

Someone said they are "nothing special", but I'm not too sure that's accurate. I believe they've hit critical mass with the release of El Camino, and on the right trajectory toward becoming something special. Time will tell.

... or roughly 235 yds away?

I have heard numerous special moments in the two Keys' CD's I own and on balance I like them quite a bit, but there are also a goodly number of "misses" in those two CD's.

While I liked what I heard in their SNL and Colbert performances promoting El Camino, I did not like "them". Whereas a decent level of joy came thru in the Austin City Limits appearance where I first stumbled into them,
they just seemed "distant" on these two recent occassions... especially in the SNL appearance. Maybe it was a venue thing; maybe it's the promotional grind, but I was left with the feeling they are tired of performing.

    Nothing special, huh?

Just heard 20 seconds of "Lonely Boy" on FOX NFL as the lead in tune to the Green Bay/Giants Kick Off.

Hmmm . . . International Top of Mind Awareness maybe ?? . . . but I guess that's "nothing special" out of the 700 billion tunes Fox could have chosen.

Listened to Brothers last night. It has been a long time since I heard a rock album with more than a couple good songs. It was pretty good. I wonder how these two person groups get such a full sound. Do they record multiple instruments in the studio, and then hire somebody to play them for live concerts?

Saw them last summer and they blew me away. Been a fan for awhile, but first time seeing them live.

If you do like the sound...and also like "darkish and soulful music" (my translation)...listen to Dan Auerbach's solo album "Keep It Hid." The album just hits me deep somewhere.

Try it and let me know what you think (scroll down to preview songs)...http://www.amazon.com/Keep-Hid-Dan-Auerbach/dp/B001NKWLGW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326769446&sr=8-1

The "nothing special" (I guess like Google and Twitter and Apple are nothing special) Black Keys score again . . .

Discovery Channel's Bering Sea Gold that premieres Jan 27 is apparently using "Little Black Submarines" as the shows theme song (when they could have chose any other of about 700 billion songs).

Just finishing El Camino now. So far, every song is a keeper. I read in Rolling Stone where one of them said they had never heard of the White Stripes. Right. Anyway, while there is a similarity in sound to some White Stripe songs, the problem I had with the White Stripes is that they were erratic. Some songs were great, others sucked. Yet, with both Brothers and El Camino, The Black Keys are batting 1000.

Time to buy the rest of their CDs.

^ I'd heard exactly the opposite in an interview with Dan Auerbach. Something along the lines of "the only piano keys that were left after Jack's band."

Keep an eye out for their Austin City Limits' set. Here's "Tighten Up" from their appearance...

The "nothing special" band strikes again . . .

The Trailer for Brad Pitt's (nothing special?) "Moneyball" features a half-minute of (Akron's own) the Black Keys "Howlin' for You" (from Brothers) starting at about 48 seconds. And just a reminder, the trailer producers could have chosen any other of about 700 billion songs.

I wonder how much top shelf exposure and how many millions you have to earn to become something special?
