Sorry I already have someone in line for the 6511s. I am keeping a spare and the other two are spoken for.Too much **** to list....

Good idea on keeping spares. I have about 20 of them and an extra set of passives and crossovers, better to have too many then just a couple of them..Polk Audio SDA 2.3tl Fully Hot Rodded. 😎

Have you had the opportunity to do any comparison between the SDA 1C's you are selling and the Studios you modded yourself. I am sure that you like the modded ones as you did them yourselves. Just wondering if there is a noticeable difference between the Caps and resistors used in both.I got static in my head
The reflected sound of everything -
I guess to answer your question plainly...No, I haven't. If you allow me to go by memory then I'd say the woods would be more suited to low volume sit by the fire warmth where the studios would excel in the rock and roll volume induced listening. I notice a huge difference in the power (if you will) in the studios now. They are very commanding and mean business when you give em some juice.
I'm thinking the whole comparison thing between the two would be too subjective. The reason I say that is the studios have spikes the woods do not. The woods have a custom IC and the studios do not(yet). I have one bad driver so I can't a/b them per se with out swapping drivers. I do remember that when I replaced the studios initially it was a very warm sound. The woods being a very pleasant sounding set of speakers. Keeping in mind the studios had stock xovers and some of the resistors were actually loose and I pulled them without the aid of a soldering iron (yuk!). Also, neither set has really been broken in. I can vouch for my studios and I was informed when I bought the woods they had approximately 50 hrs IIRC so neither has had a chance to perform at their best.
Also the polys were blown in the woods when I got them and would trip at just moderate listening levels so the time I did get with them isn't how I would compare a set to another anyway. I removed the polys after the studios were done and back in their rightful place.
Another point to consider would be that I also went from a 5.1 receiver that probably shared about 125 watts/5 to the Sunfire set (TGP3-5/425), entirely different digital interconnects and xlr instead of rca so the differences are all over the board. To pinpoint a source of change would be like throwing a dart at this point.
For home theater I would say the woods matched well with the stock cs350 but after the cap upgrade to the center I noticed a better match between the center and the studios.
I can say the woods sound great! Well now they have a scratchy 6511 but no matter. They perform quite well and I'm sure after some break in time the Clarity's will sound even better. As will the Sonicaps....
Too many variables to make an accurate comparison .

I dont know about SDA rarity on the west cost but here they are rather hard to come by. I have only come across 2 sets in my life and one i know own. I too would hate to see them parted but i am in michigan, a bit far to pick up. My set is a 1B that the former owner was cruel to and are in process of repair. There is no cure....

My soon to be FIL lives in the UP. If you want to work something out it might be possible to have him bring them up there somewhere. No guarantees, but I can look into it if you are interested.Too much **** to list.... -
After some serious thought (and knowing once I'm gone there will be all kids of s!@t slinging from the holes that have caused this decision) I have decided to part ways with this forum and its BS. I know "y'all don't care". That's the problem. Consider all transactions and pending sales cancelled. I don't feel it necessary to hand good deals to a group that have little to no respect for its members.

Funny how you seem to imply you are all innocent in these matters."Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. For what it's worth, I care; I really wanted that amp. I was going to send funds first thing tomorrow morning per our previous verbal conversations. I'm not aware that I've earned that. I think it's pretty selfish of the OP to broker a deal and then renege at the last minute. At the very least he should have honored the deals, especially since you weren't the one that caused him to get his panties all twisted up. Perhaps some of his true character is showing through.

Wow this sucks... people are being punished for doing no wrong. I've come to learn in life that it's simply not worth crying over a little spilt milk. Especially in an environment where you may have good relationships and friends. You're taking the frustrations you have with one or two people and taking that out on the community. Just block the BS if it bothers you.
Wish you all the best dude. It was nice to be e-acquainted with you. -
I like how we don't care yet you are the one that wants to part out a perfectly good pair of speakers and it got people upset. I understand they are yours but for a lot here it may take a bit of time for them to be able to ever purchase them and seeing a pair parted out makes one less pair in the world.
I think this forum does care about member's more than most and thats why I've stayed here as long as I have. -
I agree. I just saw this thread, he really overreacted. Yes, it may be his right to do what he wants but as an sda lover it would be my duty too to advise him that might not be prudent. **** slinging?? I doubt it cause as you said we don't care, and I honestly don't care. Then you wonder why I said what I said about doing someone else's crossovers.

Not that I blame him but Jim is not getting back to me on the amp either here nor on the phone so I can only assume he is no longer interested. Quadzilla was next in line. If he isn't interested i will list it on ebay.

Yea...so be it but I did say he would have the opportunity so here it is. No matter which way I go someone will be pissed so this is about the best way I can handle the situation.
Either way It's about 150 less than anywhere else so if the attitude is worth waiting on another that's his prerogative.
P.s. I already knew this John but I don't feel like listening to the BS cause I didn't give the opportunity before I sell it elsewhere. It will sell either here or somewhere else so that's not my concern.Too much **** to list.... -
Hi Dan, sorry I haven't gotten back to you since you left me voicemail yesterday morning. Yesterday was very hectic and I didn't have a phone signal for a large part of the day.
Because of your recent posts, I am uncomfortable with the situation. I had been discussing with John how to combine the channels into 2x400 for the front mains and even with the owners manual it didn't seem to work as described. Because I'm now uncomfortable with the situation I would prefer to let another person buy the amp. BUT, I did verbally commit to you that I would send you complete payment on 12/16. So if there is an amicable way to back out of that commitment due to recent developments, I would prefer that route. But I am prepared to honor my commitment, just as you committed to buying your extra amp recently.
Please let me know how you would like to handle. No hard feelings from me, stuff happens. Thanks!

I have no hard feelings what so ever. I am glad to hear you are able to overlook my recent misdemeanor. I hold you in no way obligated to our earlier agreement as I feel I'm the one that muffed it up. I am sorry for the inconvenience and take full responsibility for our transactions failure.
On a side note. I have been reading about the daisy chain theory as well and even though it seems to have some merit in certain applications it seems to me the better choice would be to bi-amp instead of bridge with this particular piece.
Thanks for the reply Jim, I do appreciate your professional communication.

Sorry you don't have a clue what you are talking about daboys.... They are whole. 1 bad driver but still whole. I also fixed the poly problem and the dangling xover. Sort of funny you couldnt hear that xover bouncing around in there. Either that or you didn't care to tell me about it? hmmm. @ any rate they are in good shape just need a 6511.Too much **** to list.... -
