A friend came over for a few and I cranked up some tunes. He was impressed with what he heard and I am not surprised. He sent me these pictures of what some old guy gave to him telling him they are special :lol:
I hope they are!!!
Any of you wonderful memebers know what they are? I hope not to tell him firewood :evil:

Sansui from the late 70s/early 80s would be my guess. Some refer to as Kabuki. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Kabuki%20Speaker

Sansui was known for some of the best electronics ie: tuners/amps/receivers of the day, but their speakers were less desirable.

Yep! Big A$$ Sansuis, Pioneer also made some, Kenwood, etc. I see these all the time on CL and people selling them think they can get top dollar (like 150) for them? Of course, they don't seem to move very well--off the List, that is!

And there are some "collectors" who just want a set to run with their vintage Pioneer or Sansui equipment. Some claim to actually like them. If nothing else, they are designed to be run by fairly low wattage receivers and are often rated 60 watts or so RMS which is a feat considering, as Dennis points out in the link, that many had 15" woofers and a supporting cast of four or five more drivers per cabinet??

Some smaller models are even rated at 30 or 40 watts.

Don't judge a book by its cover. They may not be very popular (probably because they are old and ugly), but some of those old Sansuis can really sing. They aren't all "kabuki" speakers. Give them a fair listen and you may be surprised. Maybe not. Haven't heard that particular Sansui before.
