2BTL - My Audio Odyssey 2011 (Maybe into 2012!)

Ok time to check in.
My speakers sound very musical. I love them. Over the past Christmas holiday I found the time to enjoy some time with my brother and we replaced the filter capacitors in my Adcom GFA-555. I forgot who said it but every thing matters. That statement is true. Every thing I do changes things for the better.
Anyways my speakers are musical, what more can I say. The whole system is beginning to sound beautiful. I do not know what else I can do to the system (I am sure there will be some suggestions) but I believe wall treatments are now in order.
Have you replaced the big 16 mH inductors with Solen 10 awg's? It'll set you back some coin, but it makes a significant difference.
Another tweak that's pretty cheap is to replace the SDA interconnect plug on the speaker with a binding post, and make a new IC cable out of high grade wire. This made an easily discernible improvement in sound on my SDA's.
Cheers!"Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -

You are correct. We had a very good time.
Well I am very happy with my TL'd 2Bs. All this fuss I was having over the harshness was a combination of the old filter caps and the bias being off. Even after fitting the new filter caps in there the bias was affecting the music. I learned a good lesson there. So the upgrade to my speakers was bringing out the weakness in the GFA-555, coughcoughjesseecoughcough was correct all along. He mentioned that to me early on but to be honest I was not very educated at the time. What a difference a few months can make. So now I am about to embark on replacing a few ceramic capacitors that need to get gone in the GFA-555. Then I have plans to replace the input transistors on the PCB power board (after more studying).
drumminman: I knew someone would chime in on places to throw my money! That may come later but right now I am concentrating on the power amp. It was a hard choice to decide on which piece of gear to upgrade 1st, the speakers or power amp/preamp. Which came 1st the chicken of the egg. In hindsight I would have began at the head and not the tail which would have been the power amp. Live and learn.
So the 2BTL is a hit! These speakers sound killer and should only keep getting better as long as I make the NECESSARY changes required to improve my gear. O I almost forgot. I am installing the PR gaskets when they arrive. Not here yet but should be here soon.SDA2BTL

Congrats on your upgrades. The 2Btl is a great speaker, and when upgraded is one of the best I've ever heard. So glad you have learned so much doing the mods. It's really a fun journey! :biggrin:Sunfire Theater Grand IV
