1.2 questions

I have had a set of 3.1 TL's since 1990 which I purchased new. I have had them set up in my apartment for about a year or so before I decided to remodel the house restore a few cars ect ect. I have recently been able to get to a point where I starterd setting up my equipment and upgraded my amp. I am very happy with my stock system, but like every thing else, I would like to upgrade. I have recently been browsing the forum and getting the itch to possibly upgrade to the 1.2's. My question is is it worth it to spend a bit more time and money to start off with the TL's if the future would be to do the tweeter, cap, resistor modifications that I been reading about listed here on the forum to either model. Will a pair of modified 1.2's match up to a pair of modified TL's?
Thanks
Thanks

Apples and Oranges. The 1.2 modded uses the RDO 194's while the 1.2tl's use RDO 198's. The 1.2's are 6 ohm speakers the 1.2tl's 8 ohm speakers. The crossovers are also different. I own both speakers and would say the 1.2tl's are more refined especially with the RDO 198's. The 1.2's have a bigger bass sound that is good for rock music but you will need a quality 6 ohm amp to power them. Both speakers need a large room to really open up. Neither of these speakers are seen much. I would not turn down a mint pair of 1.2's for a good price. To answer your question does a pair of modified 1.2's match up to a pair of modified TL's, most would say no, the TL's are better. Trust me either one of thses speakers can rock the house.Polk HT system 1: LSIC, LSI25 mains, LSI F/X rears, Lsi F/X rear centers,

The 1.2 and the 1.2TL are both 6 ohm. The orginal SDA is 4 ohm

Also you can potentially buy a 1.2 and have forum member Ben modify the crossover so that it can accept the rdo 198 tweeter. It should bring them pretty close to the 1.2TL if not exact.

Really Ben? I'm sure a few here would beg to differ lately. Trey would be the better bet to get the XO's done or even shipped back in a timely manner. -
There's more to it than just modifying the high pass section to accept the RDO-198's you also need to modify the low pass section by changing L1 from 2.5mH to 2.0.H and L2 from 1.25mH to 1.0mH. You can just unwind these to get the correct mH. Now keep in mind that L1 on the 1.2 is 22 gauge wire and 20 gauge wire on the 1.2TL good luck on trying to get the DCR right on this one. L2 uses the same gauge wire on both so getting the DCR right on this one should not be a problem. Also you can potentially buy a 1.2 and have forum member Ben modify the crossover so that it can accept the rdo 198 tweeter. Hence my quest for exactness that I fear will never be reached...:( -

Being the only one that I know who has the original TL crossovers and the 1.2 modified by Ben crossovers I would love you hear your opinion on both.. pretty please.. I will owe you a beer if you ever head this way. -
