Hey guys,

thinking about getting a new sub for my two channel system (ignore the signature, it is being changed) and was wondering if either of this options would fill my 17 x 17 room with good musical bass. Also which one is more musical? I can get them for the same price so is a sound quality decision not a budget one.

Regards,

eduardo

Def Tech is definitely HT first
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Supercube III is a good all around performer. The REL is a little better for just music by a small margin. BUT......the SCIII will sound much larger due to its design. Both are musical but the edge goes to the REL at the sacrifice of the sub sounding "small". If you are wanting something you can buy,set and then forget I would suggest the SCII (2x the wattage of the SCIII) if you want to go DT. The REL while a very nice subwoofer just does not make the cut for me. For a small room and low to moderate listening levels it is ok but when the urge to jam hits you the 150w REL will not cut it. Now if you step up to the T1 that's a different story. Either way though, if you can I would try and get my ears on them first. Remember though, DT is a HT company first and REL is a sub only company. Just my .02.
    Everything matters. That is all.
Money cannot buy happiness, but it sure can buy a bad **** boat to pull up along side it though.

From my experience, the SCIII and the SCII subs are not very quick sounding and therefore, I would pick something else for music. They are, IMO, just a bit boomy.

I designed in my down time a subwoofer utilizing the TC Sounds 8" Epic in a 2 cu ft box that would hit solid to 20hz... :)

I think the cost came out to 450 bucks in parts

    Would be suhweeeeet

I'm in the process of breaking in a REL T3 that I have paired with (also new) Lsi7s. The room is approximately 12 by 14. It does not have many hours on it, but it blends very well with the 7s. I bought the T3 because I wanted something musical to fill in the bottom end and that is what it is is doing. I don't notice it unless I turn it off, which is what I was hoping for, seemless bass. While I'm very happy with the purchase given the price ($399 at Vanns), I believe the R and Q series would be preferable. Also, I don't think this would be my choice for HT in a larger room.
MAIN: Polk Lsi9s; Polk PSW505; Lsic (in box); Onkyo SR-875; Parasound 2250; Cambridge Audio 740C; LG BD370
    OFFICE: Polk Lsi7; REL T3; HK 3490; CA 840W; Onkyo C-S5VL
    BENCHED: CS20; OWM3s

Supercube sub's are musical quick and very clean. They are also powerful and strong.
Rel is music first and not exactly good at doing theater bass. Yes it plays the notes but there is no power behind it for explosions.

Enter a musical only sub, REL is the only choice here.

I listened to both the T3 and Supercube at BestBuy. I know, not an ideal listening environment or setup but gave me what I needed to hear. Paired with larger speakers, the RELs just sounded better to me. Plus, keep your eye out for auctions, closeouts, CL, etc. because they are not as straight forward to set up and others may give up trying. If you are patient, you can find them at decent prices. I like my .3 for HT and the T2 paired with the Rti12s for 2-channel. Would love a T1 but those have been a little harder to find at steal prices. Good luck.

SC for HT, REL for music.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

found out today that the supercube III is discontinued and replaced by the supercube 2000, i like the connection options better on the cube III, the 2000 has only lfe in where the cube III has both lfe or l-r rca and also high pass input.

now i am really in a pickle since i had ordered one today and got the news about this change.

Order a refurb from Bajawaverunner on EBay - it is Defintiive Tech direct (actually Direct Electronics, who owns Definitive) - the products will be like new and come with a warranty.

The super cube III is a fantastic little powerful sub. If you purchased one , your going to love it. It is a musical sub , just not as good as the Rel.
