Travel Help Needed

My wife and I are thinking about taking a trip to New Orleans next month. Anybody live there or know the area well? We'll arrive on a Monday or Tuesday and leave on Friday or Saturday. We've never been, so looking for suggestions.
Where to stay or not stay...
Where to eat or not eat...
What to do or avoid...
Should we rent a car or use public?
Thank you!

New Orleans is a fun place although I haven't been there in years. Stay in the French Quarter and you do not need to rent a car. Plenty of good restaurants, bars, music, art galleries, etc in walking distance. You can take a taxi, trolly or public transportation to the out of the way spots like a walking tour in the garden district, swamp tours, etc. There are many famous restaurants there like commanders palace, emerils (warehouse district) etc. The famous ones are expensive but you can find many smaller ones that are reasonably priced with exceptional food. I'll leave it up to others that have been there more recently to provide specific recommendations.Rig1 - Totem Hawks, Benchmark HDR, Parasound A21, Sonus, Samsung 52 LCD, Audioquest Type4
Rig2 - LFD LE IV Integrated, Harbeth P3ESR, Rega Dac, MF V-Link, IMAC, Audioquest Type4 -
Just stay out of the 9th quarter, don't carry cash and under no circumstances dress like tourist.
JK I really have no idea always wanted to go but never seem to have the time or the coin to go.
Anyway have fun.
BTW: That Adcom GCD-700 I bought from you a year or so ago is just purring along really happy with it.“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain -

CCNJ - Thanks for the tips. We were planning on staying in the French Quarter, but don't know where. Any particular hotels you would endorse? -

I've been in the hood out there in the 9th. It's not that bad, I was just out there on GP visiting the hood. Your either buying or selling, they won't rob you on some GP type. Anyway French Qtr should be tons of fun for the week. Venture out and see the mess Katrina made of the place though, it really touches home.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Note to self...remove exterior money clips from all clothes. You sure are making my travel arrangements more difficult!
Glad to hear you are still enjoying the Adcom. -
