Once the Jeep Cherokee is gone we won't be getting another SUV. Had it to tow jetskis and a boat, but don't use those any more. Wastes too much gas and is not as safe as a smaller car with a unibody frame. A new Fiat 500 has a higher safety rating than my Cherokee.

Yeah, like i had mentioned, I ended up going with a new Ford Escape. It was a deal too good to pass up and it gets great gas mileage. I can understand about SUV instilling undue confidence. I, however have been off-roading for years in all conditions, drove an oversized 118,000lb semi for four years while i was a heavy equipment operator cleaning up train wrecks, so I have a fair assessment of the vehicles capabilities and my own while operating it. However, I see aholes flying past me through the passes in CO in a storm with 4WD engaged and catch up to them a few miles down the road against a guard rail or stuck.

Good point about the Illinois legislature though. I know they'd love to impose any new tax they can. This place is hell if you're no a government employee or on the receiving end of one.
