Karma for "The Who" fans

Karma for The Who fans (or those who want to become The Who fans)

I ended up with two copies of the "Endless Wire" CD after buying a large portion of a 1,500 piece collection that just sold locally.

Endless Wire was the eleventh (and last, so far) studio album released by The Who in October of 2006 after a twenty-four year drought ("It's Hard" was released in 1982). Endless Wire debuted at #7 on the Billboard album chart and #9 in the UK and has 21 tracks that are all worth a listen.

The CD jacket also contains a 28 minute, 5-song DVD sampler of the Who's 2006 "Live at Lyon" (France) appearence.

We can argue hard about whether The Who or Led Zeppelin top the list of Greatest All-Time Rock Bands, but I could buy a small house or nice car with the money I spent following live shows back in the '70s

Simple rules: Open to everyone -- List your favorite Who song -- Let me know you are In.

I'll pick a random winner in a week (approx. Wednesday, 11/16/11)

You might already know about this, but Bowie's cover of "I Can't Explain" on the 1973 "Pinups" LP/CD is stellar.

I thought I'd share mine before I closed this out. I played bass in my high school band (Minuszero) that evaporated like ether when the 5 of us went 5 separate directions to college. I think because I played bass I was always partial to Entwistle's contributions.

    The Song: My Wife

    The Album: Who's Next (1971)

    Rare in many ways,

Written by John Entwistle (RIP John; 10/09/1944 - 06/27/2002), probably as an exaggeration of personal experience; he'd been out partying and had gotten in trouble with the wife (Alison Wise).

John's major (and only) contribution to Who's Next (He wrote it, sang it, played bass, piano and brass!), great instrumentation, horns in the last part of the song, classic Moon drum solo. Humorous; shows a whole whole different side to john Entwistle other than his stoic downbeat production.

It takes a genius to to write an upbeat, rocking song about your wife wanting to murder you!

    Listen on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0iA_rOcn9Y

    #############################################################

    My life's in jeopardy
Murdered in cold blood is what I'm gonna be
I ain't been home since Friday night
And now my wife is coming after me

    Give me police protection
    Gonna buy a gun so
I can look after number one
    Give me a bodyguard
A back belt Judo expert with a machine gun

Gonna buy a tank and an aeroplane
When she catches up with me
Won't be no time to explain
She thinks I've been with another woman
And that's enough to send her half insane
    Gonna buy a fast car
    Put on my lead boots
And take a long, long drive
I may end up spending all my money
    But I'll still be alive

All I did was have a bit too much to drink
And I picked the wrong precinct
Got picked up by the law
And now I ain't got time to think

Gonna buy a tank and an aeroplane
When she catches up with me
Won't be no time to explain
She thinks I've been with another woman
And that's enough to send her half insane
    Gonna buy a fast car
    Put on my lead boots
And take a long, long drive
I may end up spending all my money
    But I'll still be alive

And I'm oh so tired of running
Gonna lay down on the floor
I gotta rest some time so
I can get to run some more

    She's comin'!
    She's comin'!
