Great..thanks for the speedy reply!

The HT bypass switch would kill the volume control on the pre-amp and surrendering it to the AVR when watching movies, allowing the sound to pass through. When listening to 2 channel music, you will use the pre-amp volume.Receiver-Yamaha RXV-3800, Amps- Pass Labs X250, Pass Labs X3, Projector-Epson 8500UB, Screen-Elite 103", Remote-TSU 9600, Towers-Focal Electra 1038be2, Center chan- Polk CSI 5, Side surr-Polk Rm6751, Rear surr-Polk FXi3, Sub-Paradigm PW2200 Ver2, DVR-Hauppauge HDPVR + Dish VP622, Console-Xbox 360 Elite, Xbox Kinect, HTPC-4 GB RAM - 2.6 GHz - 2 TB HDD.

Currently I use my Adcom AVR as a preamp to my Adcom 5802. While the music sounds great I was wondering if I added a preamp will it sound better? Since I really like my 5802 I was thinking of going with the Adcom GFP-750 pre. Any thoughts?

I just recently added a Camdridge 840E preamp that I purchased from Audio Advisor (on sale, reg $1799 marked down to $999) to take over 2 channel duty from my Pioneer VSX-21TXH AVR, well worth it, much better 2 channel performance. Both the AVR and now the 840E were feeding my Parasound 2250 amp.2-Channel System

WOW... I just picked up a GFP-750 in like new condition.
Definitely more detail and blacker backgrounds. Now I just need enough time to sit down and listen to it.
looks like a few step ups above the AVR. -

I have that pre-amp, along with 2 840W amps. I am amazed at how good the sound is, especially as I have upgraded the inter-connects, speaker cables, and power cords. It just gets better and better.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

It should be several steps up from the AVR.
Congrats by the way

Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. Thanks... I bought it from the original owner and the unit looks brand new! I now I just have to antiquate myself with the Passive mode on and off and see what I prefer.
I did swap out the power cable to Signal and did notice a difference from the stock PC.
