I have a pair of PolkSDA-1A's that I stupidly hooked up to bridged NAD amps. Amps are now repaired and I am just using the 1 amp non-bridged but I can't tell a difference with or without the interconect cable. On another post Someone with a similar problem said they found their SDA fuses blown. I have no fuses on the back of the speakers. Are they inside and what do I open up to get to them. After **** up once I'm a little shy. I posted here before and you guys are great.

The fuses were just for the tweeters only. Yours must have poly switches if they're none on the outside. Is your binding post cup square or round? I believe all the round cups are poly switches. Those will reset after you turn down the volume most of the time unless you've already blown a tweeter(which can happen quickly). Check to make sure you're getting GOOD contact with the interconnect cable. Sometimes the connection point can get pushed into the inside of the cabinet. you might also check to make sure all wires are connected. Try the balance knob turn all the way left or right. If you turn to the right you should have a tweeter and the dimensional driver in the left side working. VERY BAD things happen when used with non-common ground amps(as you found out) you may of damaged something on the speaker also. Polk didn't put that warning on the back of SDA's for nothing. -
Thanks Pitdog I know at least 1 of my tweeters are working on each speaker so that should not be the problem. Excellant advice about turning the balance to one side to trouble shoot the SDA. I am afraid I might have done something to the speakers because when I hooked them up wrong the first time they played for 5 or so seconds then stopped for about 1 second then started playing again and seemed fine except I am sceptical as to wheather or not the SDA is working. My amps were actually OK but I sent them out to be checked out, cleaned and upgraded. Since my amps were OK thats when I started worrying about the speakers. They sound great but I'm not sure I'm getting the sound stage. Thanks again for your help.

inside tweeter stereo..... outside dimensional
stereo tweeter will work without cable connected..... outside tweeter and top outside woofer will not...... -
OK after using the balance I determined the SDA is working on the right speaker but not on the left speaker. Are there any hints where to look from there. I haven't removed any speakers and tested them separatly yet and didn't know if I should start there or with the SDA system. Both tweeter and woofer are inop if thats any help.

well i already advised what to look for in my other post but i'll re-hash...... Check for good connection in the B/B pins. i.e. make sure the pins didn't get pushed into the cabinet, check wires running from pins to the SDA xo dude it's all in your hands now...look ok:smile -
Sorry to make you re-hash. I just assumed that since 1 speaker worked correctly that the cable must be pluged into both speakers correctly and there must be something else wrong with either the non working sda speakers or the sda unit it's self. I have been working 14 hr days this week and haven't had a chance to trouble shoot any more. This weekend I will tear apart the non functioning speaker and try to sort it out. All I was looking for was when you said I "may have damaged something on the speaker" was there something in particular I should look for as I have never been inside. Not to worry I will dig in and see what I find
