Mythos St/STS
Hi,
I am looking to buy some nice speakers and I believe some of you own some Mythos STS?
I am 50/50 HT/Music in a 17 by 17 room. One end is mostly open to the adjoining room. I have an Emotiva XPA-5 and a Denon 3312 receiver. Right now I have Polk TSi 400's. They sound pretty good with the Emotiva but I know there is much better out there. I have been looking hard at the Salk SongTowers because of the incredible reviews for them but I am not sure about their HT capabilities.
How much difference is there between the Mythos ST and STS? For my room what would you recommend?
Any experience with Salk?
I wish the LSiM line had better reviews but so far they seem lukewarm. And the LSi 15's can be had for a good price but I am thinking the Mythos are for sure better?
Any help you can give me will be very much appreciated (btw, I am looking at the Mythos Nine for a center).
Thank you

I like the ST's over the STS's for music. Sound is similar but it has a wider, fuller sound stage and extends a little lower.
LSI M lukewarm reviews? They sound outstanding to me, and that's coming from a Mythos owner. Polk really did a
great job improving the lsi's, I'm very happy with them. They're the best sounding Polk speaker I've heard. -
I'm a Mythos ST owner myself. I selected them over the STS due to better bass, cleaner midrange and overall better deeper soundstage. The STS is about 90% of the ST and a very good sounding speaker. For that room , I suggest strongly checking out the STS. They are wonderful and with built in Subs that really perform.
I suggest the Mythos 9 center and 9 for surrounds if you can swing them. If not the Mythos Gem Xl's are a fine choice. I like the 9's for music SACD and DVD AUDIO as well as the best sounding surrounds for that package.
I personally use a Mythos 10 center and Mythos 10 surrounds. This is one killer package.
The Mythos Line destroys the LSI's in every single way. I have nothing to say about the new LSIM's but I will be able to directly compare them once I get my hands on the demo 703's which are coming here next. I'm very excited to hear them .
Let me know if you need any more info on the Mythos , We are dealers and I do them just about every day.Dan

Okay, I can finally scratch the LSi's off my list for sure. The 703 isn't on my list right now because I want floorstanders. Maybe the 705 would work for me. It seems most everyone prefers the Lsi 15's to the 25's. Maybe the same thing will happen between the 705 and 707.
Up in the financial neighborhood of the Mythos ST and Polk 705 are a lot of candidates, heck I could even go up the line of Salk at that cost.
The Mythos speakers are definitely appealing, by all accounts killer with HT. Mantis, I tried sending you a pm but your box was full.
Anybody else care to chime in? -
If you go with the Mythos I would definitely consider the BP8080cs or 8060cs center over the Mythos nine or ten. It's much better, more dynamic and the clarity matches the ST/STS's perfectly. If you're close to me you're more than
welcome to come hear my Mythos and LsiM speakers. -
Leroyjr1 thank you for the offer but I live way down south in Cajun country.
Man, I am glad you told me about the other centers. I had not considered them at all because they are in another line. Definitive says the BP8080 is their top center channel.
What LsiM speakers do you own leroyjr1? And are they as good as the Mythos (or better) in your view? -

The ST's are a great speaker. You will love them. I just moved from the ST's to the LSiM 707's. The 707's are in a different league. -

I find the ST's to be an amazing speaker for both music and theater. When properly calibrated , setup , wired and powered they can be one of the very best speakers in there class. If the LSIM's are that good, maybe the ST's will have a new job in my house maybe just theater and the LSIM's can be my 2 channel speakers. It's something I have been wanting to split up anyway.Dan

Not to derail this thread but I want to hear them really badly. I'm suppose to be getting the 703's over the demo program so I can hear for myself.

I think you'll be very surprised at the performance of this bookies. I've tried them for both music and ht. These things are screaming detail. I think Polk really hit the nail on the head with this series. Detailed and full are two words to describe the sound. I do think the ST's are more dynamic and throw a wider sound stage so for HT they're a keeper. The bass on the 703's are surprising, I checked my sub numerous times thinking it was on. -
