    I think PFB should stand for "picking fights blatantly" as it seems that's what's going on here. Let's all move on and allow PFB to settle his own miseries.

    After the 2nd post in this thread, it's been downhill. PFB- file a grievance, e-mail the seller and give them an opportunity to make it right, if not, not much you can do except leave negative feedback on the site.

    In 15 years of buying and selling a few things on Audiogon, never had I any sort of problem with honesty. A different class of sellers as opposed to fleabay. Not to say every bushell has a bad apple or 2, but the 'gon has way less bad apples than many other sites.

    Ok here's the update

    I bought an anthem avm40 and the seller said that he had arc but lost the mic for it .I contacted anthem and they said that I was to power it up and check if the dsp board for arc was installed so I did and it does not say avm40/arc so the seller could never have used it with arc because it just said avm40 when I powerd it up .The upgrade for arc is $700 and anthem said they discontunued this upgrade a few months ago

    Why didn't you just write the above as your post #1?

    Contact the seller and Audiogon with your findings and a precise and polite request for what you want (dollars off, full refund etc.).

    Well to start with normally Audiogon isn't going to do much. Most they will do is say that the one member should compenstate for the misinformation ect.

    after that there's nothing really to be done by them. It mostly comes down to how you paid. Cashier's check you can kiss it goodbye if the seller is not willing to do anything. Most you can do is file a report with the police but seeing you have an item then not much more they can do. if you didn't have the item it could be considered theft but once again if the check was cashed nothing much more can be done. That is why I HATE using them with little to no feedback people because it happened to me and I waited 3 months for gear that finally came and had to have local police involved. PITB

    As for paypal and gear on audiogon I've had better luck. Had a seller who claimed everything worked properly when I got it, it didn't. Took his sweet time and never called me to discuss how to fix or anything. He ended up filing a paypal claim because I left negative feedback on the gon. I ended up getting all my money back within about 2 weeks of the claim. Just had to send the unit back with sig verification and worked out easily.

    the Gon in that situation said that I should get my money back and removed the negative feedback that the seller gave me.

    Its going to come down to what did his ad say? Did he say in the ad he had ARC? If not, well then he didn't misrepresent the unit. If he had pictures and claimed that it was there and it wasn't then yes you should work something out with him. Remember paypal has a time limit to file a claim. Also if you pay via CC you can also do a claim with them which I did in my case as well just in case paypal didn't work it out for me.

    Well here is a the sellers description that I read leaving me to believe the unit had arc "im original owner of this unit 7.2 processors ,i lost the arc,this unit about 1/2 year old,i think it's still under warrantee.i looking for a trade in local for solid or tubes preamps,the unit in silver face.thanks for looking"

    I will email him and get a phone number and see if I can work things out .And as far as the pics or it never hap .... I will snap a pic

    Did you ask him specifically about the feature it's missing and if it came with it, and/or any proof like a photograph, etc? Although I'm not sure he could understand your e-mail if you didn't send him a decoder. NEVER ASSUME anything in a printed ad, NEVER. Always ask lots of specific questions. Sometimes it;s hard to believe people can even function in life. :rolleyes:

    Yes I asked him about the arc feature and he told me that he lost it ,never used it though and would send me the install cd but does not know what he done with the mic

    OK, there's your problem. The seller is an illiterate moron.

    When a seller writes a description like that and you buy anyway, Caveat Emptor . . . you're screwed.
