Dared Sl2000A owners or anyone that uses these tubes

I am going to go out on a limb here and see if anyone would be interested in a mini group buy. These tubes are fantastic as I already have 2 pairs in my personal collection. Many who have just gotten the Dared are asking for suggestions and these Raytheon 3 mica black plates are probably in my top 5 favorite tubes. At $90 shipped for 11 pieces that is a steal.
Let's take the first 4 people that are interested in a pair. That leaves 3 extra in case there is an issue with one of the tubes. I have personally owned 5 pairs at one point and none have been close to being microphonic.
If there isn't enough interest then I'll just pass on these. But IMO, these are really, really nice sounding tubes and this is a great price. Only 2 days to decide and I won't make a profit, just collect money based on the final cost. Probably about $20/pr shipped which is a great deal for NOS in boxes.
Disclaimer: I'm willing to pay for these up front, but you get what you get. What I'm saying is I can't take the responsibility if the tubes are bad and replace them or refund any money. I will certainly work with the seller if there is an issue, but whatever the final outcome is, I can't refund or replace tubes except for using the 3 extras I plan to set aside and pay for myself. There is no reason there should be issues as they are NOS and in original boxes, etc. But we are talking about 40-50 year old tubes.

If I get a luke warm or no response, I'll just pass on these. But this is a really good deal for NOS in boxes of a really great sounding tube.

Count me in for a pair..
-
I will also add that if the extra's aren't needed to complete the first 4 pairs then a 5th pair will also be available.

If I had a need I would be all over this but I don't currently have any tube gear in the house.
-
Seems like a great deal, but I don't own any tube gear that uses a 12at7 (that is what these are, yes?).

The tubes in question are 6414's. Most Manley tube gear uses the 6414. The Raytheon 3 mica black plates are about the best I've heard. I prefer them to the Euro 7062/E180CC also.
Yes, they are slightly lower MU substitutes for the 12AT7 (ECC81) tubes, almost identical electrical characteristics as the 5965. They are slightly taller and the plates are longer than the 12AT7 (ECC81). Basically the "American" version of the 7062/E180CC.
A little background for those interested

Where's NAP? I will hold the 4th pair for him until I hear differently.
Just waiting for the seller to return my email at this point.

Okay, okay. I'm in, send me the details. The Dared arrived yesterday. Thanks.
-
BTW - What's a good price for the Brimar rectifier tube ?
-
Most if not all are purchased from over seas so the shipping is usually high, seems to be no way around that. $50-60 shipped is about the going price for NOS.
Right now I'd grab one from this guy, or perhaps others have a better source.

This is still on hold awaiting a reply from the seller. It always make me a bit leary if a seller can't/won't answer some basic inquiries within a reasonable amount of time. My questions were basic and I always send an email to a seller before buying so I can gauge their response time and attitude, etc.

Outstanding! You won't be disappointed, Tony. It's a latter production tube, but still very well made. The Mullard, GZ30 is another good'n. It's just too bad the Mullard isn't the fatty, Coke bottle shape that I prefer. Still an excellent performer in the Dared.
Okay, I'll hold you to it. Otherwise, I'll have to invoke the use of the Ban Button and you know what that means...........................no more pie. (kidding of course) -
Ok, here's the deal. The seller never bothered to respond to my 2 inquiries and that caused me to be a little uncomfortable. So I didn't pull the trigger. There are some other sellers selling them in pairs. Right now there are some really great deals on Ebay for used tubes. Myself, I just bought a quad of 60's Raytheon 3 mica black plates and I couldn't resist a pair of late 50's Amperex Bugle Boys (with the Treble Clef logo) made in Holland with the flat bar D getter. I bought these for peanuts.
I have been wanting to try a pair of short plate Raytheon's for awhile and I already have a pair of Amperex BB's with the flat bar D getter but not w/the Treble Clef logo, those are much more rare and a little older. In fact I have recently been listening to the Amprex BB's made in Holland and I forgot what a sweet tube they are. The soundstage is spectacular.
This would be great to go in on. But they are untested which is fine, but never pay alot.

I'm in for a pair of those if you are able to get them. Don't have any of these to try with my Dared yet.

Got the Dared up and running last night with the stock tubes. A very nice upgrade, very satisfied initially. It wasn't long before my ears started objecting to the shrill sound of the stock tubes. They are very annoying on any music that has horns. I have the Brimar rectifier tube that I compared to the stock rectifier tube (in looks only) and was impressed by profile of the Brimar. Can't wait to give it a test drive. One question, did any of you guys have a problem with your remote ? The volume up button on mine doesn't work. Have you contacted the seller for anything warranty related ? Other than that the Dared is very sharp, sexy looking piece of electronics. Very Happy ! Cheers. -
Tony,
All the dealings I've had with Joe Zhou have been very positive. Send him an email and explain your issue and I am confident he'll take care of it for you. My unit has a different style remote which looks like car alarm fob rather than the slender wood unit.
I'll send you a PM about the tubes I mentioned.

Okay, thanks and okay, thanks. -
Get those Chinese rubbish tubes out asap and get some decent tubes in there, Tony. You'll notice a huge difference once you start to rolling.
My signal tubes haven't shown up yet. What can I expect replacing just the rectifier tube ? Are the stock tubes good for any other use ? Guitar amp etc ? Maybe I could just Karma those out or something. -
Okay, big happenings here last night.
My signal tubes came in, not the Mullards but a pair of Raytheon black plates that I ordered. I swapped out the rectifier tube with the Brimar and installed the Raytheons, a HUGE improvement ! The first song I listened to was Arlo Guthrie's City of New Orleans and I have to say it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up (no lewd comments please). I went on to listen for about an hour last night. Very pleasant and non-fatiguing, sounded great on everything I put through it. Looking forward to more listening tonight. Thanks for the help/suggestions. Cheers. -
Glad you're liking it. It's a sweet piece of gear than never disappoints.
Which Raytheon's? 6414 or 12AT7, they both have distinct characteristics.
