Anyone else excited about this? I've been waiting for a long time and now it's finally a day away! This is my 'Star Wars' or 'LoTR' release, hopefully I won't be dissapointed.
I realize that at least 2 of the 3 are bad movies, but what can I say I'm a sucker for dinosaurs. I have Jurassic Park and Independence Day there in my top 10 even though they're both pretty cheesy and probably not considered to be great movies.

I think Jurassic Park is a pretty great movie, as far as action flicks go. It actually has a story and characters and tension, unlike, say, Transformers, that just has explosions and noise. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

You mention 2 of the 3, is this being released as a combo Pack? I would buy the first one on Blu Ray not the other two as those were pretty cheesy, however my grandson likes the third one the best. I guess if it is the first one only I will pick it up the first one is a Classic.Home Theater

I have not seen that they're releasing the first one solo, all I've seen are the boxset so that's what I plan on picking up.

the reviews on the blu-ray releases is a bit disappointing... There are claims of some edge enhancement and that the CGI compositing can be seen due to the high res of Blu-Ray. Colors are a bit off but the audio has been rated outstanding.
-
Jon, where are you reading reviews?
I don't expect much on the video side of things, we are talking about some really old CGI here. I'm more interested in the audio, so glad to hear that's good -
i remember when JP came out in the movies. i won tickets to go see it from school for being student of the month in 4 or 5th grade.....great movie....mole'

I'm in the camp that actually enjoyed all three of the JP movies, so I'm stoked for this. Mine should be here today with my copy of Captain America. Have people coming to the house for Cap tonight, but I do plan on spinning the T-Rex scene in JP1 to hear it in all its lossless glory. :cheesygrin:Equipment list:

On an LCD set, I can see ALL CGI. It's really distracting to me. I can see that the actors are not really looking at the image they're suppose to be seeing.
On a plasma tv, I don't have the same issue. The newer LED sets also seem to be fine (to me) -
I'm no expert but the video looks fine to me but not reference quality, the audio however is outstanding

Wow does this make no sense. I don't dispute there are differences in TV sets, but to the point where it looks like the actors are looking at different things to you? Talk about all in your head.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
I cant imagine what this movie would sound like with 4 subs . I saw this movie at the theater and the cgi on a huge screen was awsome so there should not be a problem with a decent transfer ?

I'm pretty stoked about this release. My son and I have been waiting for this for a long time. I may be in a minority, but I though the second and third were better than the first. JP1 definately had the shock and awe of the realism of the dinosaurs that had not been done before this movie, but the other movies had much better action. Plus JP1 still frustrates me with the T-Rex walking through the fence where the goat bait was tied up, but then a minute later its pushing the car and two people over the edge of a very high cliff in the same spot. Can't happen !!! I think that was an oops in the movie.....Parasound HCA-2003A & 2205A

For those prone to pre-judging releases, Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy will have two strikes against it going in: first off, it's a Universal catalog titles, and those have long been the bane of high definition aficionados, and second of all it's encoded via the VC-1 codec, which for some reason is the Rodney Dangerfield of video compression techniques...
Let's dispense with the usual furor over Universal catalog releases, and that is the perceived overuse of digital noise reduction. I'm the first person to admit that DNR, at least when applied judiciously, does not bother me in the slightest, though it evidently drives other videophiles to froth-mouthed fury. The good news is if?and that's a big if?DNR has been applied to any of these three releases, it has been done so extremely judiciously, and I doubt very many people are going to complain about an overly smooth and waxy texture to any of these films...
In fact the one issue that videophiles might indeed complain about is the very noticeable haloing in all three films courtesy of edge enhancement. Edge enhancement actually grates on my eyes far more than DNR ever does, and even though I find it bothersome, while evident, it's still not of any considerable concern here, it's simply being mentioned for those who like to view films looking for any potential problems...
As with many Universal releases, while colors are robust and extremely well saturated, I personally found the color timing of these releases just slightly skewed too much toward the red side of things, but again, this is of no huge concern... -
I liked all 3 movies. Yeah the first one was the best but the other 2 are just fine.
I'm excited about the Blu ray releases. They where great on DVD as I used them a lot for demo.Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -
I have just watched the first JP movie... and to be frank, I was a bit disappointed... The picture indeed was flat with little contrast. Edge enhancement as was reviewed, while not overdone, was annoying to say the least, mind you, I watched the movie on a 120" screen. In the scene where they first see the sauropod, you can see the edges of the images darkened by the EE, especially on the trees.
I also think the audio was overdone in the bass. In the scene where the T-Rex stomp stirred the water in the cup, the bass overpowered the dialogue and was so obviously enhanced, it was distracting. Again, I have a three sub system that is calibrated, with the primary speakers all with full sized woofers. The number of subs was used to reduce bass distortion, not to increase the amount of bass, i.e. reduce the volume of each subwoofer to acceptable levels as not to drive them into distortion when the volume is increased. -
We watched the first one and thought the picture quelity and sound quality were both excellent. I wouldn't say the picture quelity is reference level, but it's very good and a big step up from the DVD. Like the reviews I've read have indicated, you really have to be looking for the EE, and I'm not that anal about the picture quality.
As for the audio, just outstanding. I disagree on the bass, in my system it was absolutely perfect. For me this movie had one of the best mixes of dialog and effects that I've heard yet. I don't have 3 subs in my system though, maybe that's the difference. I don't think most normal people have 3 subs, I'm confident that anyone with a typical setup will thoroughly enjoy the audio mix. -
JP1 definately had the shock and awe of the realism of the dinosaurs that had not been done before this movie, but the other movies had much better action.
Well, maybe more action but not necessarily less cheesy or more realistic. In 2, having the tough merc types firing their automatic weapons uselessly over their heads while running away like little girls was much worse to me than having two different elevations bordering the T-Rex observation spot in 1. -

IIRC, the DVD of 1 was one of the original DTS releases and had pretty amped bass for the time. Not surprised they made another great mix for the blu-ray.
