Good job Trey...I was at your house one day when the guys were working on it and I can see huge improvement from the pics. I think you were at work that day...I met Tom to exchange some gear. Good job.
-
Oh yeah - I remember when you had stopped by when I was not there!
You should come back one day and check it out again!
We still need to have a lil Polkfest here one day!
Will be fun!
Thanks!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I like the improvements, but why would you put down hardwood/ laminate floor just to put both rubber runners and carpet runners on top of it? Isn't that admitting the wrong choice of flooring for that area?
I understand the area rug line of thought, but if carpet is what you wanted to walk on, why not just lay carpet?HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

I absolutely despise carpet - it is very dirty and I have bad allergies and dogs...
With area rugs and the plastic runners I can just roll them up - clean under them and so forth... the plastic runners are for my dogs so they do not destroy the floor underneath and I also file their claws monthly to reduce this issue...
I just like hardwoods but also enjoy area rugs!
The hallway is distressed hickory and the spare bedroom is distressed maple - I REALLY like the distressed maple...
Thanks!- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Yep, you validated my question......laying distressed maple hardwood floors down because you like the look, then trim the dogs claws and roll out rubber and carpet so they don't distress the wood. Aren't we a strange curious lot, us humans?
Don't feel bad, my Grandma bought brand new furniture that fabrics never saw any use due to the clear plastic covers, then topped with blankets.....HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

The odd thing about humans that I have yet to figure out is how we look at status in our culture.....we will plunk down huge $$$ to by a Fender Road Worn Guitar yet raise hell if someone keys our new car. Yeah I do not understand the mentality - I have been working on my house for 2 years so everything I do is thought out and implemented in a way it will last hopefully 50 years...
I put down mats not to keep it looking like new tomorrow, but potentially for the duration of my stay here and that the next person can enjoy it and know that I tried to make my use it as good as possible..
I do not understand people who will buy extremely crappy quality stuff to only replace it again two years later...
My flooring was 4.25 a sq foot - I ripped up garbage that was .80 a sq ft and it was poorly installed with no pad underneath and was just absolute garbage... they did it just to say they did it when they sold their house with no longevity in time. They would have been better off to save up for a few years and then buy floor in the 2.50 a sq ft range and actually install something that can last more than two years...
Anyways - I just want my stuff to last a long time not look immaculate - my floor already has several scratches on it, a house is meant to be lived in and enjoyed not a museum but I also do not want to do this again for a very long time- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. I am a hardwood/tile person myself. (Allergies) Area rugs are easier to replace than carpet, esp. with pets. Your house is coming together nicely, hopefully you get to sell at a market peak.HT Optoma HD25 LV on 80" DIY Screen, Anthem MRX 300 Receiver, Pioneer Elite BDP 51FD Polk CS350LS, Polk SDA1C, Polk FX300, Polk RT55, Dual EBS Adire Shiva 320watt tuned to 17hz, ICs-DIY Twisted Prs, Speaker-Raymond Cable

Thanks!
As this rate if I do sell it will be a long time from now --
On the other hand it would take certain circumstances to make me want to sell... the house is laid out perfectly to expand it and make it quite a bit bigger...
Hands down the coolest house ever thanks to Lightman1 and Treitz...

It makes sense to me within the context of appropriate aesthetic character. Some types of limited aesthetic defects are desirable and can add character and mystique.
Cars are supposed to clad in smooth gleaming metal, no matter the age. It's what we expect.
Shiney new musical instruments don't contribute to the mystique of the experienced and well traveled master musician. Also, in many cases old musical instruments cost huge $$$ because they have tone qualities that can't be duplicated, or even approximated, by modern versions.
A small scar on the cheek or chin of an attractive man can enhance his "rugged handsomeness". Women may even strike up a conversation by asking how he got the scar. Men aren't expected to be "pretty" with flawless skin. Women are expected to have smooth, flawless, hairless skin. A small scar on an attractive woman's cheek or chin is considered a defect...no exceptions. Men won't ask about it, but they will probably wonder why she won't get it fixed.
The purposely created defects in distressed wood flooring only progress to the point of creating a certain look. The fine, random scratches continually created by dog claws would exceed that aesthetic limit and eventually get to a point where the "distressed" appearance is ruined and the floor just looks "all scratched up".

Looks good. How do you think the hard floor surface vs carpet impacts SQ in both 2ch & HT?
-
The tile cost about that, but I also had to reinforce the floor and install jack studs under the floor to remove flex (850 dollars) - I had a friend of mine that had done tile for me and he did it for very little money
Between my first attempt at tile (epic fail), reinforcing the floor, concrete board, more tile, renting a tile saw, etc etc it comes out to $15.00 a sq ft- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

I personally like the sound that hardwood provides but I also make sure my speakers have a rug located directly in front of them. I also live a brighter sound by default.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Shoot, between her and my schedule, I think I'm about booked through the first of the year! I'd love to get down for Scarrowinds, I've never been, but it wont be happening this year. When I built my deck last year, I tried a post hole digger for about two minutes, and then ran to the rental place to get an auger. Damn this NC red clay/dirt, I miss that Iowa black soil, much easier to work with!
BTW - I know the first time I ever come down, I'll be toting a pair of LSi9's to drop off, you have been warned! -
Yeah I had a ran in with a post hole digger at 12 years old - was an experience! lol
I am down for some LSi9 - believe it! lol- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
