MM 6501s Cut Out at High Volume

I have 2 sets of MM 6501 component speakers connected to a JL Audio HD 600/4 amp. The headunit is a KDC X395. All items are new. The problem is the amp cuts out when you get to about 2/3d power (24 on the HU). This is not a power issue and it's not a problem with the amp or headunit (both have already been replaced).
The dealer that sold me the amp is now suggesting the problem may be with the speakers (crossover, tweeter, and mid-range). Has anyone else experienced this with their MM 6501's?

John, welcome to Club Polk. It's possible that there may be an internal short in the wiring of one of the speakers which is causing the shut down. A way to test for this would be to disconnect one speaker at a time and see if the problem doesn't occur when it's disconnected.
More likely, though, is an intermittent short in the external wiring connections, caused by a loose strand of wire making contact at high volume because of vibration. So first check for this by carefully redoing all the wiring connections even if they seem to look good. -

Seems to me that the amp is clipping at that level. Turn it down or buy a bigger amp.Political Correctness'.........defined
