Carver TFM-45

Well, got it in the mail yesterday (another great find)....

After spending about 8 (mostly) uninterupted hours of listening to this amp, I'm just LOVING this amp. Definately warmer than the others. Now, I'm not saying any of the others sound bad by any stretch of the imagination, but this one sounds more like a tube amp. This would make sense as it is voiced after Bob's own Silver Seven tube mono amps.

Previously, I've been using a pair of Carver m400a's bridged for mono operation on the Amazings. Now, I'll have to do some more testing as it is very possible I'm just having the whole 'new toy' thing but right now, I thinking, I've found THE amp for the Amazings.

Obviously, I'll have more to say later but I just thought I'd share...

Oh, and did I mention that I just LOVE V/U meters???

    Good to hear Troy.

There has a be a HUGE weight difference, between it and the 400's. Massive power supply I bet.

    Cheers,

I would say that both m400's don't weigh half what the 45 weighs.

That is a very nice choice for power. It was my first pick, but I could not get the money together fast enough....thus Parasound became my Audiogon pimp.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

M400a's? Sell? Nope. Not a chance.

A man has GOT to have spares you know. Shoot, an amp goes down and I can swap amps out like a pit crew changing a tire at the Indy 500.

If you knew what the I paid for the TFM-45, you would cry. ;)

Troy, feel free to divulge the price - but you damn well better not reveal the source.

I will *personally* beat you to a bloody pulp.

So on another note, how much total carver wattage you got in the cottage? How about a break-down of what Carver gear you own (so I can prepare for my smash-n-grab).

    Cheers,
    Russ

    Troy,

Hopefully fuel consumption calcs are NOT part of your duties...

I think Russ just won an amp of his choice and you need some remedial cypherin'...

100+140+350+500+500+375 = 1965 WATTS PER CHANNEL. Non post readin' mofos.

Russ already got his component of choice on the house. A broke dick Hafler preamp.

Well, if it's wpc you're tabulating, how do you get to count both bridged 400's...

I mean, you only use one per channel... don't you? :p

    ...or are you hexa-amping????

Easy, since, it's running in MONO (meaning ONE) channel at 500 per and I have TWO of them.....you see my logic here? ;)

Hey you count it how you like and I'll continue to just be a moron.

Well, we don't call you big dumb for nothing.

All amp channels (2 per amp) except for the 400's, count them at 500 each. Did Wendi send you out the door this morning without your helmet again?

    Not trying to derail here...

Thank ya Russ for the new sig line. Priceless stuff.

Mr. Grand has like a never ending closet of stuff, how can anyone have more of anything than him? Seems almost impossible.

One can only aspire.......as I've said many times, Mr. Grand is the one who really introduced me to Carver gear. There is no way I could hope compete with him. Plus he is the ultimate babe magnet. The lovely Wendi sleeps with an 8x10 glossy under her pillow.

Don't let George kid you, I'm not even a blip on his radar screen

Can try to complete with GG's closet, but not his memory bank. He's the "Forest Gump" of Club Polk, popping up at events throughout audio history.

What you sitting on there, cochese?

I'm pretty happy with my 2ch rig:

    Carver Amazings - 500
    TFM-45 - 97.50
    Carver C-1 - 150
    AMC CD8b - 150

    Signal Cable Cable IC's / MIT Term4's - 100 or so....

Not bad for less than a Grand (no pun intended), eh?

3,407 watts of Carver amp power alone. 1,250 unused. Should I count the Onkyo's and Adcom's too?

    Paid $125 for a brand new TFM-35 and $119 for a brand new C-11.

And somebody gave me a pair of Polk Monitor 10B's the other day. Original boxes and all manuals.
