How long will it be until this is "perceived" as promotion and the thread gets closed down or deleted altogether?

Jeez, hope not. I don't have any skin the game here. I just happen to know you, Nooshinjohn and some others like his gear.

Am I missing something? Am I not supposed to post this stuff on an audio site?

You're fine, Tom has a chip on his shoulder and can't help bagging on CP once in awhile. He feels none of us like Bob Carver, and this is his way to picking at a scab that really doesn't exist.

What's up with that? One of his claims is he can make a SS amp sound like a tube amp. Great. Then make amps with parts that last, not parts that just burn out after some time.

I've owned several Carver pieces and still own a TFM-45 and a C1 pre. Awesome products in my opinion. I did have some trouble with a Carver TFM-25 a while back but it was over 25 years old and had had no work done previous so I can't really say I've had trouble any worse than other brands.

I bought a TFM 45 (new) many years ago,,and it's been used to power many speakers,,,sold it to my brother about 10 years ago,,it's had one check up,back in the day when Carver still had "inhouse" repair service,,IIRC,they replaced a couple caps that were aging,,and touched up a few solder joints,,and it's still pumping away.Pretty good for an amp thats close to 20 years.
JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

Which is exactly my question. If he can design long lasting SS amps that sound the same as tubes then why build amps with parts that burn out, and need to be periodically replaced, adjusted, biased, etc.?

Because he can't build SS amps that sound the same as tubes. There are some SS amps that have tube-like characteristics, but they aren't the same at all. You and he seem to define tubes in a broad sense. Lots and lots of differences with tube amps based on design type and exact tubes used, etc.

If you want a long lasting SS amp that sounds like tubes, here's one.

I suspect :-) that it's a little like the curious case of Dr. Robert "Bob" Moog. Many years after he developed the sophisticated, keyboard controlled analog synthesizer that bore his name and (arguably) revolutionized electronic music in the 1960s, Moog ended his career by going back to his roots with a little company building... Theremins. Sort of the ultimate low-tech analog synthesizer. Kind of a circle of life thing. Sadly, Moog died rather young in 1975 at age 71.

Who knows, maybe Caver's swan song will be a crystal detector radio?

(in all seriousness, the highest-fi AM or - EDIT: believe it or not - FM analog radio receivers imaginable would use passive front ends like the old 1N34 germanium diode or even a "cat's whisker" detector)

Hey guys, I just heard at RMAF that Bob is going to be offering a 21 Watt version of the amps above based on the same designs and tech. It will sell for $1500 MSRP, but I hear it will probably be had for around $1,250 if you know who to talk to.
