First shot is one of the FE167e Mets in front of a previous Met using FE108eSigma drivers.

Next is my MJK style open baffle using Fostex FF85K and Eminence Alpha 15a; beside it is FE167e mounted OB style (old kitchen drawer) for break-in. (Note single full range drivers often need up to 500 hrs. of break-in before they reach their best performance. They are a breed apart, and are not everyone's cup-of-tea.)

Lastt is a shot of the Metronome cabinets for the FE167e drivers. Mets are quadratic taper tuned quarter-wave tube type enclosure.

I think I have posted other builds before so I won't repeat them.

    Cheers, Jim

Very nice work...but! Some of you guys scare me!

Tools...if you saw mine you'd turn in 'revulsion'! I guess I subscribe to the old Confucian aphorism: He who works with his mind does not work with his hands.

But. I guess that didn't work for the Chinese either! lol

Built this to hold my CSi30 center speaker. Good sturdy base for the TV as well. It's made of 3/4" aspen with a masonite backing. Left a wide slot in the center open.

    Thanks you guys!

The treatments are GIK all around.
    Nice, Face.

    Seas drivers?

    Scanspeak tweeters?

Wyred 4 Sound DAC + amp or preamp I can't tell

    VTI 404 series rack?
Yes, the black towers have SS Air Circ tweeters, SEAS magnesium mids and woofers. The bookshelves have SS .75" ring radiators, SS 4" mids, and Anarchy woofers. The rack is VTI, I have no idea what model though. The DAC-2 and Cambridge transport are the only items still in use from that picture, I've changed everything else since.

Incredible craftsmanship Face! How long did it take for each set, start to finish?
The black speakers took a long time, it was my first all out DIY venture and I was in over my head. I have no idea how difficult it would be to tame the magnesium cones or how much diffraction made a difference. So from start to finish almost a year. The bookshelves took much less time, maybe two months start to finish. I'm about to start on another pair of large towers that I hope only take a few months too.

    Nice work!

    Some of my DIY...

A wet bar I built after finishing the lighted lower level.

Shower/body wash upgrade in the upstairs bath.

You can see the finished shower wall behind the guy on the throne.

Get a big shower enclosure down in the lighted lower level. Had to remove some siding and a big window. The upper levels were finished already so we couldn't get it down the stairs.

Thanks! Good guess.....most of the completed bars we looked at would not fit a small fridge/freezer combo or allow a small microwave to fit under the bar top. I started at the height of an average bar and worked down from there. The base was constructed in two sections so it would fit and be easily carried down the stairs. Screws hold it together and to the wall. The counter top and bar top are screwed to the base.

There is a shelf under the counter on the wall portion, and the open section next to the fridge should fit a small keg. There are three small drawers and under sink storage. The second faucet is cold filtered drinking water. The electrical outlets on the bar are connected to the 20 amp GFI on the wall behind the stool. I installed three low voltage lights under the bar top and one in the under counter storage area controlled by a touch switch. I have three speeds of lighting; low medium and bright.

The local lumber and home improvement stores wanted up to $30 a foot to special order in the bar rail. I got my bar rail on ebay for ~ $9 a foot plus shipping.

Here are my "pepster" cables. I am not totally done with them yet. I am planning on getting some cable pants to cover the ends, solder the cables to the banana plugs and cover the outside of the cables with something (thinking black in color). I just wanted to wait till I figured out if I was going to bi-wire the cables or bi-amp them.

I think I will keep the 15's cables bi-amped and the LSiC bi-wired (need some more banana's though).

Locking Banana's are GLS Audio, the wire is Audioquest FLX CL2 14/4 wire.

Pep, should make you feel better :wink:

This was my first attempt at matching my wire (Monoprice 12awg) to plugs. However, I've already decided that I will make an investment in some good cables down the road. (We really need a thumbs up/down emoticon). And you didn't do them right unless your fingers hurt!

Hehehe. I agree. But you might be surprised as to the price of "decent" cables. I got all my wire for my set of 3 11 foot cables for like 40 bucks. I spent MORE on the banana plugs than I did the wire.

Suggest bluejeanscable, signalcable, or in my case Audioquest FLX wire.

I use Monoprice banana plugs and low-voltage lighting cable (12ga) from Home Depot, and am more than satisfied. However, there are a few things to note about the MP banana plugs.
    1) I don't worry about my fingers hurting, I use locking pliers to tighten them down. Some marks are left, but I cover them with shrink wrap anyway to make them look nice.
    2) The known flaw where the banana part comes unscrewed from the rest of the plug. I found a good reliable fix for this - green threadlocker. Tighten the banana part down and then use a toothpick to get a few drops down by the screw from the inside of the plug. Let them dry overnight, and they are good to go after that.

Despite their flaws, I still like the MP banana plugs. They're incredibly affordable and the one real flaw is easy to work around.
