Wow Dawgfish....yes i would say your system is over kill...LOL
Even running just a strait 2 channel system, I seem to be always looking at....well how can i make this bigger and better. Even tho the 12's work fine by themselves. I'm dealing with a 15X28 basement space....and i sit at least 15 feet back. Like i said i put on a Zakk Wylde cd. You can't turn this up to 11 oclock, the volume and bass are just too abusive.
Talk about chest pounding..LOL Now if i had a DSW660 ..with the right controls in place, and i turned that up to close to 11..it would probably go from chest pounding to Gut kicking..make you sick sound.
It seems with this "hobby"...your always looking for more..of everything..LOL Even to the point you really can't sit in the room..if your sane. But nobody in the "hobby" seems to sane anyway...LMAO -

You can always turn the volume of the sub down or put it in late night mode to tame it down. And you would still enjoy the lower bass tones below 30 hz.AVR: Onkyo Tx-NR808

I found that the music sounds better when the sub is turned down so that you can't tell it's on. The way I have it configured makes the music sound more realistic because the sub creates a foundation. For me it's not about having more boom or louder bass. The lower frequencies from the sub help create more of the subtle ambient cues that live music has. A great example is when I listen to the song "Hotel California" on Eagles Hell freezes over- having the sub on gives it the open "you are there" feel to it. With the sub off, the music doesn't sound as big and open.
