I've been comparing the two most of this evening and as usual Dave, you're right on the money. It's time to retire my Mastersound CD. I wonder what a completely mint copy is selling for these days?

I've listened again and am more than happy with it. I've got the Mastersound, the 2track 35dp4 and other early Japan and U.S. versions , all Redbook, and they all have their moments of brilliance but this new SACD does it for me in its entirety.

Picked this up @ my local mon & pop shop over the weekend. Gave the 5.1 mix a play last night. Bass is a little over the top. Had to dial the SW setting back a couple of Db to sound right. Other than that I give it a big thumbs up. The use of the surrounds on Welcome to the Machine is spectacular.

You found the SACD somewhere locally?

I was surprised to see it there also, since I thought this was an online only thing as well. Same price as online too. They only had the one copy.

Just got notification from Amazon, this'll be available 1/10/12. Got mine in the cart.
How is the 5.1 mixed, in comparison to DSOTM? as good? not? I'm still getting it, just want to be ready.

I'm a little pissed. I was all set to sell my STS's, but now, I have to wait.
I've waited 5 years for this album to come out in SACD, I guess I can wait a little longer:confused:

They did a great job with the 5.1 mix. I do not think it uses the rears as well or as much as DSOTM, but it does sound great. In the beggining to "Welcome to Machine" the rears are over powering for the machine sounds, but after a few listens it does work.

I think DSOTM fits better with 5.1, sounds racing/bouncing around, laughs, voices echoing. WYWH is more straight forward and not all over the place like DSOTM. I do not think you will be disapointed in the 5.1 mix, it is excellent.

The 5.1 mix is a welcome addition that I totaly enjoy!

I just hope we don't have to wait 5 more years to get 'Animals' on SACD.

Just ordered the SACD hybrid. I've got the '92 Sax remaster but what the hell. Don't have an SACD player but hopefully the 2-channel will be better than the one I've got which isn't very good IMO.

Yikes. Just placed an order with Music Direct. I'll just just have two whenever Amazon delivers. My 'expected' ship date from amazon is the 13th of Jan. but if it turns out to be Feb... so be it. Can one actually have two many copies of WYWH?

I think if you keep one sealed, you'll be very happy you have two. You can always sell one in the future for a drastic mark up in price.

Looks like "The Wall" is next!

Is Pink Floyd's The Wall Immersion edition going to have a 5.1 Surround Mix?

    Taken from http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/albums/pink-floyds-wish-you-were-here-sacd-review-and-interviews-including-james-gu.html

James: My understanding is that EMI plan to stick to their release schedule for the 'Why Pink Floyd?' campaign, which means there wouldn't be time to include a 5.1 mix in 'The Wall' Immersion Box. I will be doing a 5.1 mix of The Wall for release on SACD, but we don't have a planned release date for that yet. The original multitrack tapes are in pretty bad shape, so the project will take some time. I'm currently working on a Blu-ray release of 'The Wall' Movie.

So, I'm reading a review someone posted in which they prefer the 35DP-4 (Redbook) version over the SACD. At the end of their comments they state,
I played them simultaneously, the 35DP (CD) on an Esoteric player, and the new disc (SACD) on a Denon, so some difference might be attributed to the players

    Gee, ya think!?!

Let's see, play the CD on a reference quality CD/SACD player and the SACD on a consumer grade CD/SACD player and somehow think that they are even close enough that an opinion on the sound quality has any merit!?!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

That's pretty funny. The DAC's in that Esoteric will obviously more than make up for the difference in resolution.

I cannot believe how good this sounds on my two-channel system. The surround also sounds good, but the better gear in the two-channel really works with this SACD.

The theme of Friday night's poker game is "Wish You Were Here". The SACD will play on random shuffle thoughout the game.

I just listened to this in 5.1....not disappointed, just confused.
On 'Shine on...', I always thought Gilmour sang that? At least that's who it sounded like to me? On this recording, it sound's like Waters?
When the vocals came up, I was like HUH? who the f*%# is that singing?
