placement

I am fairly new to H/T, so I apologize if this is a simplistic question. I just picked up a pair of Velodyne CT-100's for my H/T. Are there any recommendations for placement of a pair of subs or is it just trial and error? I had thought about one just to each side of the screen, on the floor, between my mains and screen. I didn't want to get too close to any corners so as to avoid boominess.

Subwoofer placement is an art and I would have to write my book to explain this very deep and detail topic.
In short having 2 subs over one is a wonderful thing to do. It really helps cover a room with better and more even bass.
Without knowing anything about your room , I do however like your idea of placement. You are on the right track with or without the knowledge that stands behind such a radical decision. Having the idea of keeping the subs out of the corner to avoid boominess is another comment that leads me to believe you have some kind of knowledge of how bass works. Some subs however welcome corner placement due to design and performance.
If you google sub placement in a room , you will discover a wealth of knowledge. Setting up 1 sub is difficult , doing 2 or more is an art. I can help you further with pictures of your room , seating location and measurements of 1) seating from display , room size. Also a list of gear you own can further help get this project in order.Dan

Thanks mantis. I will get some pics and measurements as well as a list of gear in this system including models etc. I have been busy all weekend with my honey do list as my oldest daughter had a baby shower.
I hooked the subs up in the previously mentioned positions and did some listening. Depth and smoothness is much better than with my previous sub but after some quick balancing of crossovers and levels (nothing final by any means) the system seems to lack some impact. From listening it appears to be more a characteristic of the sub response being so smooth and not accentuated at some frequencies.
My plan was to try moving one sub to the corner, but I went to the local thrift store and found a matching Velodyne CT 80 which is the 8 inch version of the others. I placed the 3rd sub first along the same plane as the other 2 just outside the right main and readjusted the levels, crossovers hoping the increased headroom would compensate for the apparent lack of impact. it did not seem to do so. I then placed the CT80 in the corner to the outside of the left main and again readjusted. This seems a little better but still not quite the impact I am wanting.
This leaves me with more moving around of subs and or going back to the two, or one, or even adding in my old sub as well and using 4. it seemed to have a bolder impact but also a tendency to be slightly boomy if not adjusted just right and kept away from corners and other walls as much as possible. It is a down-firing 12 with front firing port, in a smaller cabinet than the CT100's which are 10's and are front firing with a slot port along the floor at the front. If con is the opposite of pro, is Congress the opposite of Progress?!
