I just got Monitor 70s. My receiver does not have preouts. Could I use this amp to power them? The amp is a AudioSource Amp310 which also has speaker level inputs. Money is the issue. At this time I cannot afford to buy a receiver and an amp.

Receiver: Pioneer VSX-1121K

it's a 5.1 channel at 100watts per channel. I want to improve the sound as much as possible by being as frugal as possible (something to get me by for a couple of years until I can afford to get a nice reciever).

I take it you are not happy with the way it sounds? How long have you had the monitors?

There's not much low end. I'm assuming if they had more power, they would sound better all around including more low end.

What receiver are you using? For $350, you should be able to get a much better receiver (especially if you looked used and don't need all the new bells and whistles).

Or you could for $350 get a used receiver (or preamp) and add a used amp.

What are your requirements (e.g.., how many speakers, do you need surround processing, hdmi, 3D).

    What are your sources?

    Sometimes true, sometimes not.

I don't know that you have them hooked up correctly if you're not getting much bass. I have 2 pair of RTI4's and they put out a decent bass line for bookies.

You need to double check your connections and make sure your jumper plates are connected right.

Can someone explain to me the difference between using the OP's example for external amplification vs using a recevier with preouts and a seperate amp? I don't need a totally indepth explanation. Just something I can understand in lamens terms.
