...and I'm still smilling from ear to ear. I got a pair of RTi100's last week for $360, but was not very happy with it. The power bass was cool but I've heard better. So I went to CC today to audition the RTi70 because I heard much good things about it.

While I was auditioning the RTi70 . The SALE tag on the RTi150s in the room kept flashing at me and calling out for me to take them home. $245.96 each for the RTi150 while the RTi70 was still at $399 each... I couldn't resist.

I decided to audition them both, RTi150's and RTi70 with the Velodyne CHT120. I also try the RTi150's without the Sub. I was there for more than two hours. The sales manager (who knows me because I buy all my speakers from him for the past five years) showed me how to switch back and forth between the speakers and left me there to make up my mind.

Eric Clapton was on the DVD. He sounded so good that I decided to buy the DVD with whatever speakers I choose.

The 70s were very clear, concise, and louder than the 150s at the same volume postion on the receiver. But it was too much "in your face" kind of clarity. The RTi150 was more reserve. Quiet at the right moment, rumble at the right moment, and thunderous when it needs to. When I unplugged the sub... no contest... the 150s were the clear winner for me.

I brought the 150s and Eric home with me, hooked them up to my old Denon 3801. Set them on "Large". I turn the cross-over on my PSW350 way down to its minimum. Put Eric on and I'm still grinning from ear to ear at 1:30 in the morning (LA time). My wife is deep asleep and she has no clue that I have upgraded my 600i's to 100s last week then to 150s this afternoon. She sure enjoyed Eric though.

And that folks was a very good day.

From the title I thought this thread was going to be about breaking into the local CC... :D

Good going Sol... you did almost as well and your approach was considerably more legal.
