LSiM 705's and Golden Ear Triton

I had the opportunity to hear these speakers side by side today.

Disclaimer- Not a professional reviewer and not real good with audiophile terms.

One thing the Tritons are more efficient. Definitely louder played at same level (amp was a NAD T775).

I like the Tritons better for a few reasons. The tweeters and mids were smoother and the bass deeper.

The Tritons also had more of an airy sound and the instrumentation was more textured.

Like I said, not an expert by any means but to my ears the Tritons sounded better and were better priced.

Has anyone else had a chance to hear these speakers?

What do u think?

I have heard a prototype LSIM and the real deal with the Tritons and Sandy Gross himself set the demo up.

I personally thought the Tritons were near incredibly poor in sound quality.

The LSIM I will with hold my thoughts as I just heard a prototype.

I find nothing wrong with voicing your thought on the prototypes. They are probably very close to the production models.

You don't have to be a professional reviewer to voice your thoughts. I find the best reviews come from people just like you. A honest listen with a honest opinion.
Some reviewers are forced to say some things about gear to not insult or truly say exactly how they feel. They add things in their review to let you know their professional opinion but put spins on it to soften the blow.

When I review a product , I speak from the heart. No more no less.

Personally I heard GoldenEars in a Hi End Showroom (2 diff stores from the same company).

For their price of the Titan 2's I would much rather have a set of Paradigm Studio's (20's) and a nice sub.

I thought the GoldenEars sounded bloated in the low end similar to the LSi 25's and honestly wasnt super impressed.

I also hated the speaker covering, I can see it getting ripped WAAAYYYYY to easy and I am not a fan of the sock concept.

    Just my .02

Quite simply the prototype had some horrible midrange/tweeter blending...

The crossover point was evident and apparent...

Other than that to me they sounded like Polks without that classic muddy midbass sound.

    Same overall signature but cleaner.

The bass lacked alot of texture and detail in comparison to my Super Towers. They dug low but there was little "substance"

    IMO of course

And based off the prototype - I would not make them a "performance" leader in their price class...

At 4k you have brands using Seas Excel, Scanspeak Revelators - I mean drivers that... are leaps and bounds above anything in the LSiM - it is a tough price class with alot of internet direct companies who pack alot for the dollar.

Now in the big box grand scheme they may be a better value.

This is of course based off the prototype - but Polk is using a tweeter based off a good mid fi design - the ring radiator... but in this price class there are guys using the 300 dollar ring radiator and there are obvious, apparent differences.

As a fan of Definitive Technology I'm no fan of the "sock" approach they hold on to for dear life. Sandy continues to keep this with his new speakers why I have no idea. I hated it then , I hated when Mirage used it , I hate it now , I'll hate it in the future.
These are another one of those speakers I have yet to hear for myself. I'm starting to feel like I'm slipping and just listening to whats in my own store. I gotta get out of my back yard and get my ears on some new stuff.

I like the sock look for a few days...

To me it is a cost cutting measure - it was cheaper to do the sock than to actually make a good looking speaker. lol

Yeah I heard them on a Peachtree audio setup and they were really anemic, and then again on a Anthem pre & amp rig and while they sounded better, they were just too boomy and not tight enough for my tastes.

That and as stated the sock concept. Only speaker that I can see why they did that was some of the Vandy's as they were quite ugly w/o them lol.....

The more I hear speakers w/ built in subs (that are powered by a built in amp) the less I like them, regardless of brand. I like my LSi 15's, but the 9's or 7's would work just as well, I just got a great deal on the 15's that I couldnt pass up lol

The Golden Ear subs would be awesome for a HT setup without a sub, IMO :)

Wow- This is surprising to me.

The only consideration when I was doing the A/B test was that the LSiM werent as loud so maybe that colored my opinion.
However, I didnt think it was even close. I thought the Tritons were a lot better sounding.
    Hmmmm. Who knows???

The cd we were listening to was a Wynton Marsalis Quartet and with the Tritons the trumpet was awesome. So much clarity and feel.

I am downloading the cd now so I can see how my SDA 1C's do in comparison. What a great hobby/passion!!!
