You are absolutely correct! The out-of box experience is the same it would have been 40 years ago if receiving new. There are no marks, no abbrasions, no nothing here. This is the same as if I ordered new. These are absolutlely pristine. I admire Jeff for keeping them in this condition! Please look at his other items for sale. I am so excited to find such a great example of some old Klipsch!

Hey man, you should have said they were "new". !!! Yes, fed very well. Right now I have them hooked to a 30wpc digital amp and they are doing an awesome job! I could listen to these all day with no fatigue whatsoever. They have a great new home. Best wishes on the new baby. I wish you well.

That is a great rig in regards to synergy.

I got the chance to hear a members Forte II's on a 16 watt tube amp recently and let me say, Tube's and Horns are meant to be married

Nice speakers, I have had 2 sets over the years and they are one of my favorite bang for buck full range speakers.

Lets see, the amp was 1100, speakers 300, power cables 140, speaker cables 100, interconnects 80 and dvd player 200. 1920 total? This was just a test system out of stuff I had laying around. I'm trying other components until I hit total synergy.

I try all new systems in the foyer first, it gives me a baseline of the sound (and it is always clear of other junk )). I could have easily picked another room but the foyer is open and doesn't add a lot of room interaction. It also is not the best sounding room in the house but is very revealing.

Well when you can bat-flap your way out......

So under two large total...not bad at all for something satisfying to play around with..yea, I have always been a big speaker/power kind of guy for my reference rig...but having a more intimate type rig to play with has always been a pleasure. I dig the "you gotta have stuff to try stuff" mantra. I am going to be acquiring a locker full of speaks and things shortly...not sure though my "capturing" the foyer for trials is going to go over well, the trappings of marriage....on the upside I got clean clothes and hot meals and three mancave audio rooms in the house.....I am bringing back the WoodShed Rig...it'll be my "foyer"...guess busting the ceiling though is out.....

So looking forward to your listening review on this new little baby of yours...

I keep a certain amount of stuff on hand for "trying things". I could trade it in for cash in the bank but I can do that later as well, might as well keep it around unless there is reason to get rid of it. I find that the really low power stuff allows you to hear audio changes better. If you can use a few watts and make a system sound eveloping and huge sounding then you have gone in the right direction with all your decisions. Adding power doesn't always help, sometimes it masks the real problems and you never reach the ultimate setup. Something that sounds great on one rig doesn't always sound better on another rig also. Its all synergy.

Here I've tried a much better CD player. I removed the oppo (which is quite nice) and installed an Ayre CD player. It made a huge improvement in midrange clarity and totally changed the presentation. I also changed to the MIT S2 interconnects which supports the sound of the Ayre in spades. At some point it hits you that maybe some of these upstream costs are excessive and you could make a bigger difference with the same amount of money if you looked downstream. Its a hobby, thats what really matters!

for sure...and whether your up-stream...or downstream...your in the same stream...or as said...everything matters.

What Ayre is that..I have not owned one of those yet. Read great things about them and its on my "list".

It is an Ayre CX7 with some factory mods. It is a stereophile class A player with a special CD algorithm filter which really does a nice job. It seems a little bright to me with most systems but I'm used to vinyl. Its amazing to me how much you have to spend to come close to vinyl... This is a problem the old systems never had to deal with. If I were to buy another CD player it would be an AMR, not an Ayre. The Ayre is nice but it is not very analog sounding.

Something surprising to me is the Klipsch horns. I put my ear to them and they are actually smoother than most tweeters I've heard. I initially assumed a horn would be harsh.

Thanks for all the fine comments.

I searched through the magic closet and pulled out this beauty. Its a Lafayette LR9090 which I got new back in 1972 I believe. Its msrp was $600 back then and took me through much of my initial audio exploration. I expected it would fall on its face but am quite surprised! It has a very clean sound, no high frequency harshness and presents a really nice soundstage. I think this is my choice of power for this system! At 40 years old I think I will play it much to make sure it doesn't catch fire or something.
