'TL' or not?

When you look at pictures of SDA SRS, how do you tell if they're 'TL'?

I'm not very good with the search feature on this forum. I tried several text entries with no luck. If other threads have covered this question, please post them and I'll be happy to read them.

Thanks!

Jim

If they have a pin/blade interconnect socket and SL3000 tweeters.

Note: If they have a pin/blade socket and SL2000 tweeters, they are 1.2's and can be upgraded to TL's with the appropriate changes to the crossovers, installing SL3000 or RDO198 tweeters and reversing the polarity of the tweeters at the molex connection where it plugs into the crossover board.
Additionally, the negative wire connector at each tweeter must be changed to a wider one to accomodate the wider post on the SL3000/RDO198's.

ok, let's see if I'm following this correctly. if they're b/b IC's with SL2000's they're not TL, if they're p/b with SL3000's they are? so you have to see the back of the cabinet and the back of the tweeters to tell the difference? no clues, then, from a front view of the cabinet?

I saw some 2.3's on a craigslist; listing didn't say which version, pictures of the front only. I'm just trying to learn more here; I know this is common 'given' knowledge for a lot of you guys.

    Thanks!

Now if your talking SDA SRS 2.3's that's a whole new can of worms and a lot easier to figure out. The SDA SRS 2.3 on these the top and bottom driver of the vertical array of 4 will look like they have a ring or doughnut and the rest of the drivers will look the same also the tweeters (if stock) will have a silver like dome (The RDO-194 has a black dome). The SDA SRS 2.3TL will have black dome tweeter's and all the drivers will look the same. both have a pin/blade connector on the back. And before you ask NO you can't TL the non-TL version.

    What Gimpod said.

I assumed you were talking about the original SDA SRS, 1.2 and 1.2TL's, not the 2.3's so now I'll try to answer your question pertaining to the 2.3's.

Do some of the drivers look different than the others within each cabinet? If so, those are donut drivers and the speakers are 2.3's. If they don't they are probably 2.3TL's. The only way to be certain is to look at the tweeters and if they are SL3000's, they are 2.3TL's. What Gimpod said......

I appreciate the good info; didn't expect such differences between the 1.2's and the 2.3's, but I'm not surprised, either. Polk is always interesting!

from discussions on other threads, I expect my next upgrade would be either 2.3's or 3.1's because I don't think my room is big enough for the really big boys. knowing ahead of time that early 2.3's can't be TL'd is huge, because I'll want to end up with that generation. better just to look for it to begin with, right? I thought for a while about doing the TL mod on my 2A's, but general consensus seems to be that that upgrade may not be worth it.

While the TL models are nice, I would not pass up the regular 2.3 version if it came up for cheap... just my .02

A little off topic but can someone explain what TL means? I've been curious and figured I'd ask.

SL2000 tweeters have silver domes and two wires potted into the face of the tweeter. SL3000s have black domes and no wires. TL = SL3000. This of course doesn't hold true if someone swapped tweeters, but if they're stock it's a good gauge.

While generally true, there are 2.3's out there with all regular looking drivers.
