I would think it would go up as well. I just wonder what will happen to T-Mobile. It's seems the owners want to drop it.

I glad they stopped it. No competition left if it went through. Those 2 use same type of phone so invention will keep going and prices keep competitive. Plus you can use the other company phones and not have to buy data plans.

    so they said.

Confirmed? Really? Even now, all the reliable places I go to only go as far as saying they're "heavily speculating." Either way, competition is always good!

While I'm all for competition in the mobile industry you have the major market rule of three to contend with and the desire for a strong and robust infrastructure that is not fractured among a multitude of competitors. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

    YES!!!!!!

Score for us T-Mobilers! If this went through I more than likely would have been forced to pay for a contract & a monthly plan that I don't need.

Now I can keep my phone & just renew my minutes once a year for $10.00!

Well, AT&T will lose 3 billion if this deal doesnt go through...so expect them to try and get the decision repealed.

Real shocking news  It was a dead in the water idea anyways...just AT&T fluffing itself up to see what the market does. They don't lose anything but "pretend" losses and they're still number one in market.

I'll be glad if this doesn't go through. I'm perfectly happy with T-Mobile and my HTC HD7 (because Windows Phone 7 > iPhone IMHO). I don't want AT&T coming in and mucking up my loyalty plan.

    A few things:

1 - I don't think it's completely dead yet, still a good chance it may end up going through.
2 - All you T-Mobile people crying horay may want to hold off on that, from what I've read there's a good chance T-Mobile may shut it down anyway. The $3 Billion payout from AT&T may change that, but I doubt it. My guess is if you're on T-Mobile you're going to end up somewhere else down the road anyway, this just delays that a bit.
3 - I wonder how many of the iPhone T Mobile rumors were based on the assumption that AT&T would be merging with them?

No, they'll really have to cough up $3 billion, as well as a certain amount of wireless spectrum. At least that's what they agreed to... http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-08-31/at-t-may-lose-3-billion-bet-on-washington-as-t-mobile-deal-is-challenged.html

    Also, Verizon is #1. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verizon_Wireless

I don't know how that would make sense.... wasn't T-Mobile going to just be swallowed up by AT&T if the merger went through? So the iPhone wouldn't be "coming to T-Mobile", it would just be staying with AT&T and T-Mobile customers would get it that way.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

That's what the local NBC station said, Bob. I am with ATT and have no plan to own iP5. Unless it has an app to brew a cup of java.

That goes both ways depending on the month, churn rates at that very second, blah blah and I've worked for both to boot. Wikipedia? I find RCR(#1..or #2 maybe?) and other actual industry rags to be far better resources of information regarding the telecom industry but to each his own.

As far as the money, gimme' a break. That's just flash and paperwork. The actual copy of the merger, that was given to employees for review paints a different picture. I read the same things when the MCI-Worldcom deal was happening....read that hogwash paperwork from cover to cover. It was sickening.

Agreed, Forbes is good. It changes, either way from day to day. They've been fighting each other for years. I believe VZW to be the better company on many fronts.

Verizon is a great company, when you're about to renew your contract.

Once they have you locked in, all bets are off.

I still have them since almost everyone I know has them and I get a lot of "in network" benefits from that plus I get a discount from my work...

It all worked out to, just stay with Vz.

But god forbid you have a phone issue while in the middle of your contract. It's like banging your head against a brick wall...

This past week one of my techs was have a HUGE problem with them and they did NOTHING for her... Till one of the local store managers came in with a problem with their contacts

I told him I wish I could help him, but my hands were tied, just like how they were for them with my tech...

He looked like I just ran over his cat! He made a few calls; my tech had a brand new phone and I took care of his contact issue... Amazing how that works.

I know nothing about the billing portion and my perspective is only from the employee half, specifically Network Operations. Billing is awful at every single company, at any given time. I haven't paid a cellphone bill since 1996.

Does NTT DoCoMo still have shares of AT&T? I remember being a part of the old AT&T Wireless merger with Cingular and it was not an easy task to pass the news to the employees. As a company, you would want loyalty from your workers against the competition, the employee moral was very low and feelings of betrayal was common. That is, until stocks jumped up after the Cingular merger. I remember AT&T(AWE) stocks were around $2-3 and went up to $12-14. Oh yes, John Zeglis was the CEO at the time.

Anyone remember the Digital Advantage/Regional Advantage/ Digital One plans from back then?

After the merger with Cingular, one would expect the coverage and plans to become better. In fact, the coverage became worse in many areas throughout the Midwest.

Eventually, competition will decrease and TMobile will not be the only one affected.

I think the States should adopt the same practice as overseas. You purchase a phone at a cellular store and then choose which company to have service.

    Frankly, I don't give a damn.

Left ATT after our first cell phone... back in.... 1998? Maybe 2000 at the latest. In this area, at least, nothing can touch the coverage of Verizon.
    Ludicrous gibs!
