TonyB as for luxury taxes, Americans pay a one time tax of about 60,000 yen ( 600-700 us depending on rates) and that's it. Other than that we pay road tax yearly. Since we are Americans, again the Japanese gov. will pick up half the tab, so road tax will be like $200.00 or so.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Sweet car, though I will admit I will never understand the obsession with rims. Almost always looks like a downgrade to me, but that's just personal taste -
Nice car, but...um...how do you plan on shifting it? That knob in the console doesn't appear to move back?I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE!

That should be a very nice ride. What is that a 2009?
I might have said you should have gone with an AMG, but honestly, the newer AMGs are just insane. Too much for a daily driver if you ask me. That S550 has more than enough under the hood. For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore... -
Enjoy. I have to make sure I don't show this to my wife because she might want one! lol

Shifter is on the steering column. Electronic shifting so you just pull in the shift level and click it down for forward, up for reverse. That should be a very nice ride. What is that a 2009?

AMG is awesome car bro. I looked at the AMG packs and was amazed at the price difference. To be honest I didn't do much homework on what the AMG S class included, it does look wicked though.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I assumed it was a brandnew model year given the plastic wrapped seats but I could have been wrong.
The AMG's are in another price league (mabey 2-3).
I'm dam glade he and others are doing good enough to make their recient purchases especally in this encomomy. So the ones spouting the crap about the cost can crawl back under their rock (not refering to you bill).

I know for us Dave, it was good timing. We had enormous equity in mine and pretty decent in the other since we always paid more than was needed....AND both dropped out of warranty earlier this year as well. I was looking at a sizeable scheduled maint. payment on my Chevy and Audi's are not cheap out of warranty based on previous experience. This saved us all that, a monthly car payment on each one and didn't increase our overall debt but by $100 total. I also work two jobs, so that's a kicker for us as well as no kids.
It's not always because your affluent in as much as it is your debts are low, you're smart when you pay bills and you live within your means. I'm glad we are in the position we were and we'll continue to keep it sensible. I know Sherardp travels quite a bit for work and is a hard worker in just what I know from his comments here and offline. Sometimes you just find the right deal and have to jump on it.
It's good to see Polkies doing good and takings steps positively, regardless of if its a vehicle....as it could just be more audio stuff, hunting trips or general fun hobbies. You have to do something, anything and keep your family unit strong so the tough days just don't matter when it comes around again.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
Congratulations,, very nice indeed.JC approves....he told me so. (F-1 nut)

Absolutely. Wishing I could take a Deer hunting trip since you mentioned it. Would love to get up in the trees and get a nice deer.
The S vehicle I bought was certified used (below 35K miles), as I do like to think outside of the box. A brand new S class goes well into 90-120K easily, and it's just not within my means to spend that much for a car. If money were no object maybe, but in the end it's still a car. The only car I would spend that much on is a Lambo Gallardo, and hopefully I will be able to do that when I come back stateside. Japanese like to cruise really slow, so no need to shop for one here. And like Doro mentioned it was just pure luck and good timing to find one at a great price.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

I do understand and figured that was more of the case then anything. I too have reciently bought my wife a new BMW and when we came home with it all my neighbors on my street were doing slow drive-by's until after 2 weeks after the fact one of their kids and I were general small talking and he asked if that was ours or did we have visitors and that his Mom and Dad didn't believe it was ours because my wife always had Dodge Neons but now bought this. It made me feel like they were talking among themselves and looking at my wife and I thinking crap thoughts.
Just like you I work my **** off, full time job and run a business doing decrative concrete/construction but some people just don't see that but surely noticed right off the bat what I bought my wife. She deserves it given all the time I'm away working and the amount of miles she drives for her job. We also had good timing and equity in her car + money down, without all that I'm not sure we could/would have.
I don't/didn't mean for this to sound like I'm upset (cause I'm not and don't mean for it to come across that way) but I do mean for it to come accross for those thinking crap that if you work for it you can get "it" (whatever "it" might be) and not to be anything other then happy for those who make "it" happen for themselves and their loved ones, cause I sure am.

Dave - I understand and have gotten the same "look" a couple times, specifically from people who barely know us, if at all. I wanted to slap an extra guest of very good friends of ours, that tagged along with them to our bi-weekly dinner. She mumbled "must be nice..." under her breath then slowly squelched me out as she segway'd into her recent $80K kitchen upgrade. Hey, good for her and my wife and I just laughed with eye contact.
Man, they don't know you and if they knew how much someone may work just to get things done or accomplished, they might step out of their own "holier than thou" cage. I'm not responsible for someone else's life, only my own and we do what we want accordingly. Haters man, just haters....nothing more. That's super nice that you did that for your wife....man, you sure have some extra hugs and cheek kisses lined up for months with that one. Yeah...what did ya' get and technically, it's yours tooCTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? enjoy.

Being a BMW guy myself , I'm sad to hear you sold away your 7 for a Benz, but at least you kept it German , good man.
She's a fine looking ride but I'm wondering after a few months of owning it if you are going to long for that center weight , that knowing your car feel and feeling like she knows you. The bond between man and machine that only BMW brings so closely together.
She does look very sweet in Black. Then again most women look their sexiest in a black dress.Dan

I got her a 328I (with X-drive for the winter roads) the sport package was my idea I loved the seats adjustability and bigger wheels. She puts on 70-80 miles a day to and from work and I was always coincerned for her in the winter. Now I worry about the car :frown:. She was nervous about the car at first but is now more at ease with it. She loves the fact that she now dosen't look at other cars thinking, that one would be nice. I have driven it of course to dinners and such and I found out it handles like it's on rails .

Heh. I was actually told by one of my neighbors that I don't "belong" in my neighborhood 'cause I "make too much money". I wonder how they know how much money I make? I wonder how much they think my house is worth?
When I asked "How so?" they pointed out my 10 year old truck, my 4 year old used Lincoln, my 24 year old truck, my 5 year old used tractor with my vastly discounted snow thrower attachment and all the "upgrades" I "had done to my house". Never mind that for an entire year, every night and weekend that I didn't have something going on, I was sanding, painting, repairing walls, floors, windows and doors myself. The only things I "had done" were the plumbing, tile and electrical in the bathroom and I had a guy come in to refinish my floors 'cause he beat MY price of doing it myself by $200.
But yeah, I'm apparently, a rich, arrogant **** because I make life easy for my neighbors and use my obscenely overkill snow throwing solution to dig their drives out for them so they don't kill themselves moving snow. I'm such a jerk.
Oh, I get stared at too every time I am outside or have the garage door open. My girlfriend who lives with me is dark skinned too and the only neighbors who seem unconcerned about that are the ones across the street who are borderline hippies and the "farmer" with the "north 40" next door. I can't even clean up my garage without an audience. Oh and taking care of my yard seems to put people off too. They make comments when they think my lawn is too long or if I'm using chemicals to get rid of bugs caused by their dogs pooping on my lawn.
And y'all wonder why I hate people.
Oh and BTW, they are not "rims", they are wheels. A rim is part of a wheel but a wheel is not a rim. Get it straight.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Well, two out of three at least.
:biggrin:If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
I guess that's what we get for working extra to get something we want/need, everyone hating ya, like Doro said haters all of them. We all do what we need to do to provide for ourselves and our loved ones and not worry (or try to at-least) about what they are thinking.
Good on ya all and keep going, damn proud of you guys,
