what I have now just sucks! all it has are two full range drivers. Anything with a tweeter would be nice.

I'm looking at a JBL HLS center. they have one on amazon for $70 new:biggrin:

If not that, a Polk, that was the original plan so which one? I can only have an 8 ohm. I wish I could use one of their LSIC but not only is it 4 ohms but the sensitivity is 88Db would I'm sure my receiver would catch on fire if I used it:wink:

Which system are you looking for? Might be tough to match the timbre with a DIY speaker. Might need to add a DIY center to match.

It will be used with the Cerwin Vega's, should I get a Cerwin vega center then? These are older speakers and I haven't very many pictures of this particular model online hardly at all.

Naw my DIY's are in the 2 ch. stuff.

Thanks for the help. I would just get any center speaker but I'd like some advice first, like some that would match the Timbre of the main speakers.

Do you believe one of those would match a pair of these old Cerwin Vega's?

I will be using in my HT system. There's a list of speakers and there's a picture of the Cerwin Main speakers.

I think the Pink surround speakers look cool and all but isn't that foam surround? I'm trying to stay away from cheapy stuff, the center I have now is cheap enough. two full range drivers, plain and simple. plenty of low muffled mid's and no really nice highs. I was listening to my Dad's Infinity center and was extremely jealous at how much better his sounded. something with a tweeter, maybe a horn since the mains have horns and good sensitivity.

Do what you will. But just because a speaker has foam surrounds does not mean it is a cheap speaker.

Seems to me halo does have your matching center.

    Two things:

    1. Are you CVs 'horn' loaded (that seems like a horn in there to me)?
    2. The surrounds in your pics actually look like they might need to be 'replaced'--is that an illusion of the photo or is the surround thinning out at points on both the mid and the woofer?

they are Horn loaded. You should've seen the surrounds before I cleaned them! They don't need replacing. there was a little section in the surrounds that looked to be cut open about an inch but I fixed it. Those are not the foam surround type either. There isn't a lot to the surround on the mids. I guess the mids could look that way because they came with a mesh grill over them originally, the original owner must've taken them off.

Well the question now is, is that tweeter in Halo's center a horn or not? Because that would be 'important' in matching your R/L speakers.

I'd guess from the pics, no?

Front stage must be matched including the center. Stay away from miss-matching the front stage especially with newer speaker if you still want to keep that old pair of CV. Try get a used CV center that best match your present speakers.

the original plan was to get one with a horn loaded tweeter. I was thinking about something like either of these two

    http://www.amazon.com/Cerwin-Vega-Cmx-25C-5-Inch-Channel-Speaker/dp/B002JH1CKO/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1314744579&sr=8-7

that was the Original plan. I hate to show interest in something like this then find out I need to match if tweeters are horn loaded or dome etc.
