the output of the 2ch pre goes straight to your amplifier. You hook the ht pre outputs L/R to the by-pass inputs on the 2ch pre.
That way when you are playing music the ht receiver is completey out of the path, when doing ht the signal from the dvd "passes through" the 2ch pre and on to your amplifier.

so.....
for HT
dvd--receiver--2ch bypass input--2ch output--to amplifier--to speaker...the by-pass input on the 2ch pre does not process the signal in any manner.
for music
source--2ch input--2ch output--to amplifier--to speaker......the audio signal never goes to the ht receiver.

I also wanted to say I have a pioneer sc model and a 2 channel pre amp is a large improvement in terms of 2 channel playback. I've compares it to the parasound, adcom, and a couple others and though the sc wasn't bad the others were better

I have this unit with an xpa-5 and LSi15's. You can run straight 2-channel or 2-channel with your sub. Very nice unit IMO.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -

What's your point? If the op is trying to get better sound people are giving ways to get there. Just because your content with emo doesn't mean everyone else is. I bought a nice adcom 5802 for the same price that the xpa2 goes for and was a large improvement in sound. Instead of making fun of it I would suggest trying something out and make your own opinion.

I don't get it, the parasound at 4 bones is too good for you, yet your looking at the Emo ??
C'mon man, these 2 are in different classes bro. Lots of good advice thrown your way. There is no setting on the receiver to turn it into a killer 2 channel music machine, and no way on earth you'll get good sound with an ipod connected to the receiver by that port.

Once again look at a manual as well it's not as hard as it seems.
-
You are making this harder than it needs to be, let's try this.
For your movies run the cable from you DVD player to your receiver just like you have it today, doesn't matter if you're using HDMI or whatever.
If you're using an amp right now, then you're already running the cables from receiver to amp. Take the two front channels cables that are running from receiver to amp, and run those to the ht bypass inputs on the new preamp instead then run two more cables from the output of that preamp to the amp.
For music run cables from your source to the new preamp. -
So to make the bypass work you will need to purchase 2 additional RCA type cables, to go from new preamp output to amp

A receiver as a 2-channel pre-amp isn't going to get it done. Then add the Emotiva to the mix and that's why you are not happy.
Are you telling me all you guys with Pioneer SCs also have additional 2 channel pre's? you're killin meALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place

Got it. Got it. Got it. Last question then i shut my trap, what if i am using my bluray player as my "source"? Maybe i need to purchase another musical "source", ie. dedicated cd player. Or will this set-up ( new pre-amp installed) enhance what i already use? There.......done!LIVING ROOM:

I'm surprised this wasn't pointed out yet. But the VSX-23 wasn't designed with 4-ohm loads in mind. At least I certainly can't find any publishing about it supporting a 4-ohm load safely.

Depends on your Blu-Ray player. One way I could see working is connecting the Blu-Ray to your HT receiver with HDMI, and connect to the 2-Channel pre with RCA. It would give you a direct signal path to both.... I think it would work nicely and allow you to share the same source.
Some of the Pioneer Elite units have some decent DACs in them. BDP-05FD or the BDP-51FFD both are nice, and can be had very cheaply.
I would second the Adcom GFP-750, if it is in your price range. The Parasound pre listed is also very nice. I own a GFP-750 and love it. I am even thinking about upgrading/modifying it in the near future.

Yup. It has Wolfson DACs and it sounds pretty decent on 2-channel material. Make sure you use the dedicated 2-channel output on the rear and it should work perfectly.

Figured it out guys! Music sounds sweet! Cds are crisp & clear. Even my ipod sounds better. What I did was that I ran the MCACC again and everything sounds way better. I had messed with the MCACC settings before, and screwed them up royally. I had raised the db's on the fronts way too much and that made them louder, but not smooth sounding. I reset everything and I saved the new MCACC settings. Good to go now thanks to all.LIVING ROOM:
