Mac question- DNS servers

I have a Macbook Pro and the websurfing is getting sluggish lately. I'm wondering if it would help to switch to a different DNS server. I found a program that finds the fastest DNS code in my location. The problem is that I know very little about what I'm doing

I tried adding these faster DNS servers, but it keeps defaulting to using the DNS code which is the same as my Dlink router IP. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help with this. I'd call Apple but my Apple support expired.

If you found a faster DNS server, if may need to change it in your router.

After some poking around I figured it out. I switched it to manual mode instead of 'Automatic using DHCP' and then it didn't default to the router DNS. Problems solved.

If your DVS servers are that slow I'd give your ISP a call, they should be giving you DNS servers with a good connection speed.

When was the last time you cleared out the NAT table or even did a power cycle on your router?

It would help to change your router to a Airport Extreme. I have been running one for over 4 years now and I have no slow downs on 3 different mac's all 3 years old or older.
Also do a speed test and make sure it's not your connection. It could be as simple as that.
Are you running the latest version of Safari?

What the heck is a NAT table and power cycle and how do I clear it?

I have an airport Express, but can't use it because I have to share the router with my landlord and they have a PC and I was never able to get their computer to work with it. My connection is not very fast. I use Wild Blue satellite dish because I live in the mountains. I keep Safari updated.
